In their own words

Who are you? Tell us about yourself.

I have a proven track record of fighting, winning, and delivering for Michiganders. I flipped a district that had previously voted Republican by 16 points, then helped Democrats take control of the Michigan Senate for the first time in 40 years. Then I delivered, standing up to extremists to repeal Michigan’s abortion ban, expand voting rights, and pass sweeping gun safety laws.

I refuse corporate PAC and AIPAC money because I work for Michiganders, not special interests. In the US Senate, I'll fight Trump to take on corruption in government, protect our fundamental rights, keep our tax dollars here at home rather than going to Trump’s illegal wars, and get ICE out of our communities and force a complete overhaul of a rogue agency.

I'll take on anyone — even my own party — to build an economy that works for working families, not billionaires.

Please list below 3 key messages of your campaign. What are the main points you want voters to remember about your goals for your time in office?

Michiganders deserve a leader who knows how to fight, win, and deliver for them, like I do: I flipped a district that had previously voted Republican by a 16-point margin, and then helped Democrats take control of the Michigan State Senate for the first time in 40 years.

Then I delivered by standing up to extremists to repeal Michigan’s abortion ban, expand voting rights, and strengthen gun safety laws.

I know how to win tough races and get big things done, and I’ll bring that experience to Washington.I will build a government that actually works for people.

I refuse to take corporate PAC or AIPAC money because I answer to Michigan families, not special interests.

Michiganders deserve to know their Senator is fighting for them, full stop. In the US Senate, I will take on the rampant corruption in government, ban congressional stock trading, overturn Citizens United, and get dark money out of politics.

I know the status quo has been broken for far too long, and I will take on anyone — even my own party — to build a government that delivers for working families, not just billionaires.I’ll stand up to Trump to protect Michigan families: In the Senate, I’ll stand up to Donald Trump to protect our fundamental rights, keep us out of wars abroad so our tax dollars are spent at home on priorities like health care, education, and housing, and get ICE out of our communities and force a complete overhaul of a rogue agency.

Michigan’s US Senate race will be one of the closest in the nation. And against Trump-backed Mike Rogers, we need a candidate with my track record of knowing how to fight and win tough races, and how to do the job to deliver for Michigan families starting on Day 1.

What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?

I am personally passionate about public policy that helps Michigan families get ahead.

In Michigan, I’ve created good-paying jobs and raised the minimum wage. I’ve fought to prevent companies in Michigan from engaging in stock buybacks with taxpayer dollars so that money is reinvested in our workers. I’ve passed landmark gun violence prevention legislation.

We expanded voting rights and civil rights, and stood up to extremists to repeal Michigan’s abortion ban. We enacted universal pre–K, free breakfast and lunch in school so no kid goes hungry.

I’m running for U.S. Senate to protect Michigan families and show DC how to fight like Michigan.

Campaign websiteMcMorrow's campaign website stated the following:I'm ready to fight. Are you? This is an existential moment for our country. We’re staring down a Trump administration that’s tearing apart what holds our democracy together. They’re coming after our rights and freedoms. They're weaponizing your rightful fear and anger. They're making the wealthiest even richer while leaving the rest of us further and further behind. This isn’t business as usual, so we can’t operate like it is. The politics of the past won’t cut it. We need a new generation of leaders who will fight back against the Trump administration and build a better version of the economy where regular people can get ahead. We didn’t get here overnight. No matter where I go across the state, I hear similar stories – from Michiganders of all ages, all backgrounds, and all walks of life: “I did everything right but I’m still getting screwed.” You worked hard in school, got a job or went to college, you played by the rules, so why does it always feel like you’re barely getting by? Too many people say they still can’t afford to buy a house. They can’t dig out of debt. The cost of everything just keeps rising, but wages don’t. They can’t save, can’t afford to start a family, can’t even think about retirement. A vacation? Not likely. To protect what we have, fix what’s broken, and build something better, we need to fight. And when we do that, we can make life better for every Michigander. I’ve always believed that the most important role of any elected official is to listen first and then solve problems based on what you hear - to dig in deep to learn what keeps you up at night, what challenges you face, and what I can do as your legislator to help remove hurdles, fix what’s broken, and get us on the path that you hope for ahead. The reason I got into this race so early is so that we have time to write that vision together. As I travel the state and get to know Michiganders across every corner of both peninsulas, we’ll keep building out what you see here. What will you fight for? Tell me about it. Then let’s go get it done, together.Cost of LivingI’m focused on bringing down the cost of living so people can actually get ahead—not just get by. I’m fighting to lower housing costs, expand access to child care, and make health care, prescription drugs, and education more affordable.AgendaFollow Michigan’s lead by raising the federal minimum wage from $7.25 to $15 an hour and tie it to the rate of inflation going forward, so earnings keep pace with rising costsCut taxes for middle- and working-class familiesExpand the Earned Income Tax Credit and pay families monthly so working people can actually keep more of what they earn Safeguard Social Security so that it’s protected from threats of reduction. You pay into Social Security now. You deserve to know that it’s guaranteed to be there when you retireSimplify tax filing and make IRS Direct File available for all so you don’t have to pay for costly tax preparation servicesTrack RecordExpanded the Earned Income Tax Credit fivefold letting families keep an additional $750 per year of their hard earned money Eliminated the Snyder-era retirement tax on seniors - putting $1000 back into the pockets of 500,000 householdsCosponsored legislation to cut auto insurance rates by 10%Eliminated the asset test for SNAP benefits, reducing red tape and paperwork for health department case workers and delivering food security to more MichigandersHelped increase the minimum wage in Michigan to $15/hour by 2027 and peg the wage to inflation thereafter to ensure wages always keep pace with costs, and voted to protect the strongest earned paid sick leave benefits in the Midwest, ensuring every worker in Michigan can afford to take time off when they’re sickPassed legislation ensuring veterans can access the benefits they are entitled to without being charged excessive fees or being given bad advice, and protecting them from scammers seeking to take advantageEconomyI’m fighting to build an economy that rewards work, not wealth. That means cutting taxes for working families, raising the minimum wage, and making big corporations and the ultra-wealthy pay their fair share. And I’m leading efforts to invest in small businesses, job training, and the next generation of American innovation so more people can get ahead and stay ahead, no matter what the future holds.AgendaMake big corporations and the wealthiest Americans pay their fair share in taxes, and stop rewarding companies for outsourcing jobs, executing stock buybacks while laying off employees, spiking CEO pay without raising worker pay, or stashing profits offshoreEnd the carried interest tax loophole that allows hedge funds to avoid billions in taxesExpand access to credit and capital for small businesses and entrepreneurs by expanding support for Community Development Financial Institutions (CDFIs) and community banksImplement a strategic, fair trade policy that encourages and promotes more jobs to stay in Michigan, not blunt punitive tariffs that drive up the cost of everyday goods while punishing our alliesWork in partnership with the state legislature to find solutions to streamline state and federal regulatory requirements and make it more seamless for Michiganders to start and operate a small business or start-up in MichiganImplement tax credits and subsidies for small- and medium-sized businesses to help them adapt to a federal minimum wage raise without cutting jobs or hours – supporting the entrepreneurs and small business owners who want to do the right thing by their workersTake Michigan's work for small businesses national by investing in small business through programs like the state’s innovation fund which invests directly in early stage, high growth companies that will create the next generation of jobs in our stateTrack RecordInvested millions in the state budget to help secure a new mission at Selfridge Air National Guard BaseLed efforts to reform Michigan’s approach to economic development to rely less on large tax breaks and incentives for companies, invest more in small businesses, entrepreneurs, and give more local control to the state’s regions to support the industries and efforts that make sense for themSecured funding for the Revitalization and Placemaking Program, which helps local governments and developers close gaps in financing for community spaces, infrastructure, and downtown redevelopmentBacked the Going PRO Talent Fund, which helps Michigan employers train workers for in-demand jobs through short-term, industry-recognized credential programsCut red tape for entrepreneurs with new Business Improvement Zone (BIZ) toolsSupported local bars and restaurants by permanently enacting social districts and the legalization of cocktails-to-go, policy that was enacted on a trial basis during the COVID-19 pandemic that served as a lifeline of additional revenue for local businesses Kids and FamiliesOur kids deserve to grow up safe, healthy, and protected. I’ll strengthen child labor laws, fight human trafficking, replace lead pipes, and hold social media and tech companies accountable for putting profits over kids’ mental health.AgendaImplement national paid family and medical leave so you don’t have to sacrifice your career to start or care for your family. The United States is currently the only industrialized nation in the entire world without any guaranteed paid maternity leaveEnsure everyone has access to quality, affordable childcare so you don’t have to choose between kids and your careerRestore the Child Tax Credit. I’ll invest in local public safety, expand mental health crisis response, and crack down on fentanyl trafficking while making sure treatment and recovery services are within reach.AgendaIncrease federal funding for better local public safety through partnerships with state and local governments, so cities and towns can hire well-trained, high-integrity police officers, firefighters, and other first responders who will respect all Americans’ rights while keeping us safeExpand mental health crisis response programs so law enforcement isn’t the only option in an emergencyCrack down on fentanyl trafficking by strengthening border enforcement and targeting the supply chain – while also expanding access to treatment and recovery servicesPass federal universal background checks and close loopholes that allow guns to be sold without oversightPass a federal assault weapons ban Enact a federal red flag law modeled on Michigan’s to temporarily remove guns from people who pose a danger to themselves or others, because a warning sign should never turn into a tragedyPass safe storage laws to keep guns out of the hands of kids and prevent tragic, preventable shootingsBan ghost guns, the untraceable firearms that have no place in our communitiesRepeal the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act (PLCAA) – the federal law that grants the firearms industry immunity from liability – to hold the gun industry to the same liability standards as any other industryCombat religious hate and rising antisemitism by funding educational programming, strengthening national hate crimes laws and enforcement, and ensuring houses of worship have access to security funding and resourcesTrack RecordPassed sweeping gun violence prevention legislation for the first time in Michigan history, addressing the epidemic of gun violence head-on, including:Created Extreme Risk Protection Orders (or “red flag” laws) to temporarily remove firearms from people who pose a danger to themselves or others, because a warning sign should never turn into a tragedy,Passed legislation requiring safe storage of firearms, Implemented universal background checks, Closed the domestic violence loophole to prevent violent abusers from accessing firearmsPassed legislation through the Senate banning so-called “ghost guns,” untraceable homemade or kit firearms which have skyrocketed in use by criminals because they cannot be tracked or traced, by requiring all firearms be serialized and registeredBacked additional funding for our law enforcement to crack down on crime and drugs with stronger fentanyl enforcement, expanded successful treatment court options to reduce recidivism, and created new protections for domestic violence survivorsDelivered for first responders and safer streets with major budget investments in emergency alert systems, fire station upgrades, and community-based crisis responseCriminalized coercing people into providing sexually explicit material to help keep vulnerable adults safePassed a comprehensive bill package to hold sexual abusers accountable and provide justice for survivors by extending the statute of limitations for criminal sexual conduct and eliminating the civil statute of limitations for a survivor to recover damages if a criminal case resulted in a convictionBanned distracted driving to reduce crashes and fatalities on Michigan roadsLabor and WorkforceIf you work hard, you should be able to build a career that works for you and lets you get ahead. I’ll protect Medicare and Medicaid, lower prescription costs, create a public option, and fight to enshrine reproductive and mental health care as basic rights.AgendaProtect Medicare and Medicaid from the funding cuts we’re seeing from Donald Trump and the right-wing extremistsCreate a public option available to any Michigander who wants it, so that your ability to get guaranteed healthcare is no longer tied to your job, your marital status, or your luckMake prescriptions more affordable so they don’t break the bankTreat mental health at the same level as physical healthReduce the maternal mortality rateCodify access to abortion, contraception, and the full scope of reproductive health care into federal law Track RecordCodified the Affordable Care Act on the state level to:Ensure coverage of dependents until the age of 26Prohibit being denied coverage based on pre-existing conditionGuarantee inclusion of all essential health benefits, including preventative care, mental health, and emergency careExpanded insurance coverage to include oral chemotherapy Required health insurance reimbursements for telehealth to be the same as for in-office visits, expanding access to careProtected reproductive freedom by repealing the 1931 abortion ban in line with the will of the voters who codified the right to abortion in the state constitution, expanded access to care by removing medically unnecessary hurdles through the Reproductive Health Act, and fought for legislation to safeguard reproductive health data and defend patients and providers from extremist threatsPassed legislation to create a state-level oversight board to bring down the cost of prescription drugsLeveraged $4.5M in the state budget to buy and eliminate $450M in medical debt relief for 180,000 MichigandersEducationEvery kid deserves a strong start and a great public school. Michiganders do not want and cannot afford another “forever war” in the Middle East with no clear objective nor plan to achieve it.The path to lasting peace between Israelis and Palestinians lies in a two-state solution, with a democratic Jewish state of Israel existing safely alongside a democratic Palestinian state. In addition:The humanitarian crisis continues, and the flow of food and medicine needs to be restored and maintained at maximum capacity.Israel’s sporadic bombings and incursions into Gaza and the West Bank jeopardize the fragile peace and must stop.Hamas must disarm and demonstrate a commitment to a peaceful and democratic Palestinian state.Confront terrorism that threatens the United States and our allies around the worldExpand economic and trade relationships with businesses and entrepreneurs across the globe to secure stability through economic ties and bring jobs and investments here to MichiganHousingWhether you’re renting your first apartment or hoping to buy a home, you should be able to find something affordable in the community you love.
