In their own words

Who are you? Tell us about yourself.

I'm Lynn Trupiano-O'Keefe, a Kings Park resident, mother of 5 adult children and retired nuclear medicine technologist. For 36 years, I worked with patients and families navigating some of the hardest moments of their lives. I also know personally how medical bills can threaten a family's financial security.

I'm running for the New York State Assembly because the people of District 8 deserve a representative who listens and works for them. My priorities are affordable and accessible healthcare, keeping young people on Long Island, protecting our water and open spaces and making government accountable for how it spends our money.

Please list below 3 key messages of your campaign. What are the main points you want voters to remember about your goals for your time in office?

Healthcare is my top priority because this leads to affordability and stability. After 36 years as a nuclear medicine technologist, Ive seen how insurance rules, high costs and delays in care affect patients. My own family nearly lost our home because of medical bills. I will fight to make healthcare affordable and accessible, support the people who provide care, and hold our healthcare system accountable. No family should have to choose between getting well and staying financially secure.Keeping families together. Too many young people grow up on Long Island and then leave because the cannot afford to build a life here. I will work to expand attainable housing, support first time homebuyers, and create more paths into good paying careers through vocational and technical training. I want our children to have a real choice to stay close to family and work in the communities they love and one day own a home here.Clean water, healthy environment, open space and parks are part of what makes our community home. I will work to protect Long Island's drinking water, preserve the former Kings Park Psychiatric Center property as parkland, and press for cleanup and safety measures it needs. Environmental protection should come with clear plans. responsible spending and a voice from the people who live here.

What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?

I'm passionate about the New York Health Act because it starts with a simple belief: everyone deserves healthcare when they need it. NYHA offers a way to make this available to every New Yorker without premiums, deductibles, or copays standing between people and their doctors. To me that means one less bill, one l less worry, and more freedom to focus on getting well. NYHA would cover preventative care, dental, vision, hearing, mental health, and long term care. I feel preventing issues before they become an emergency is a great way to keep our emergency rooms from getting overwhelmed and cost effective for everyone. "Our health is our wealth."

What organizations or individuals have endorsed your campaign?

Please include the following organizations as endorsements for my campaign: New York Health Access (NYHA), New York State United Teachers (NYSUT), Eleanor’s Legacy, Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, and Planned Parenthood.
