In their own words
Who are you? Tell us about yourself.
I am a heavy equipment mechanic, union President of AFSCME Local 5 working for MNDOT out of the Maple Grove station, and a father of three boys. I’m also the son of a school teacher. My wife and I have lived in Buffalo for over 10 years, where we enjoy fishing, getting out on the water, and rooting for the Twins.
Please list below 3 key messages of your campaign. What are the main points you want voters to remember about your goals for your time in office?
The cost of living is too high in Minnesota, working families are feeling increasing pressure between the cost of childcare, healthcare, care for those in retirement, and rising prices at the grocery store and the gas pump – we need to act as a state to bring those costs down. Our communities are under assault by Big Tech and Big Money. We need to ensure transparency in government by banning NDAs between developers and local electeds, and we need a robust regulatory framework and review process for new data centers. We also need to ban AI-enabled surveillance cameras in the state of Minnesota - we don’t need Big Brother watching us every time we leave the house to pick up a prescription or take our kids to soccer practice. We need healthcare reform in Minnesota. All across the state people are having their premiums raised, fighting with insurance over pre-approvals and out-of-network costs, and watching as pharmaceutical prices continue to go up. We can work as a state to negotiate those prices down, make pre-approvals illegal, and to provide an alternative to profit-driven insurance. This fight is personal to me as the father who has had to work for years to dig our family out of medical debt related to a complicated birth, fighting insurance all the way. I intend to continue that fight on behalf of all Minnesotans.
What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?
I am passionate about labor relations and government reform. There has been a lot of talk about the outgoing administration’s handling of fraud in our state, and I believe that state employees should have been more empowered in identifying and calling out fraud. I have had an inside look on discussions of what went wrong and how to fix it, and I will work for greater transparency and accountability, as well as proper oversight, so future fraud will be prevented. I am glad that we now have created the Office of the Inspector General through a bipartisan effort and I intend to ensure that the OIG delivers.
What organizations or individuals have endorsed your campaign?
I am the only DFL-endorsed candidate in this race, and I have also been endorsed by Representative Angie Craig, Senate Majority Leader Erin Murphy, State Sen. Nick Frintz (SD-18), AFSCME Council 5, AFSCME Council 65, the Minnesota Association of Professional Employees (MAPE), the DFL Rural Caucus, and Fair Vote Minnesota
