In their own words
Who are you? Tell us about yourself.
My name is Lisbeth Arescurenaga, and I am a community advocate, mental health counselor, proud wife of a veteran, mother, and candidate for the Arizona House of Representatives in Legislative District 24.
I was born and raised in Lima, Peru, and immigrated to the United States at age 15. As a teen mother and immigrant who worked full-time while pursuing higher education, I understand many of the challenges families in our community face. Those experiences shaped my commitment to public service.
I earned a bachelor's degree in Psychology and a master's degree in Professional Counseling, and I currently work as a Licensed Associate Counselor. Throughout my career, I have worked alongside families navigating barriers to healthcare, mental health services, housing, and educational opportunities.
For more than 15 years, I have been involved in community service, advocacy, and outreach across Arizona. I am running because I believe every family deserves access to quality education, affordable healthcare, safe and affordable housing, and the opportunity to build a stable future. I want to bring the voices, experiences, and priorities of everyday people to the Capitol and ensure that our government is responsive, accountable, and works for all Arizonans.
Please list below 3 key messages of your campaign. What are the main points you want voters to remember about your goals for your time in office?
Education is at the top of my list because I know firsthand how life-changing it can be. As someone who worked to pursue higher education while balancing family and work responsibilities, I understand how access to quality schools, affordable higher education, and strong educational opportunities can open doors and help people build the future they want for themselves and their families.Affordable housing is a critical priority because stable housing is the foundation of healthy families and strong communities. When people are struggling to afford rent or keep a roof over their heads, it becomes much harder to focus on education, health, work, and other opportunities that help families move forward. Every family deserves a safe and affordable place to call home.Mental health is deeply important to me both personally and professionally. Through my work as a counselor, I have seen how access to mental health services can strengthen relationships, improve well-being, and help individuals and families navigate life's challenges. I believe everyone deserves access to quality mental health care and support when they need it, regardless of their background or income.
What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?
Mental health is an area of public policy that I am deeply passionate about, both personally and professionally. As a mental health counselor, I have worked with individuals and families facing challenges such as anxiety, depression, trauma, and barriers to accessing care. Through this work, I have seen how mental health affects every aspect of a person's life, including their relationships, physical health, education, employment, and overall well-being.
I am passionate about increasing access to mental health services, reducing stigma, and ensuring that people can receive support when they need it. I believe that mental health should be treated with the same importance as physical health and that communities are stronger when individuals
