In their own words

Who are you? Tell us about yourself.

Lisa McIntyre is the former President and current Treasurer of the Northville Board of Education, and a fierce advocate for students, families, and mental health. She’s running for State Representative for Michigan House District 22 because Michigan families deserve leaders who listen, lead with empathy, and solve problems.

As a mother of three, Lisa knows what it means to fight for a better future. On the Northville Board of Education, Lisa has delivered real results. She led efforts to stabilize the district after the pandemic, spearheaded school safety initiatives and an “away for the day” personal device policy for K-8 students, ensured students and staff had the support they needed, and kept the budget strong while improving the work experience for educators.

Raised in a middle‑class family that valued faith, education, and community, Lisa earned a BA from Kalamazoo College and a master’s in mental health counseling, building a career focused on supporting women, children, and families through life’s toughest challenges. Her work spans clinical practice, school and community mental health, and advocacy for better access to care.

Now, Lisa is running for state Representative to fight for strong public schools, affordable health care, and an economy that works for working families—not just the well‑connected. I’ll bring my experience as a mom, counselor, and community leader to Lansing, always putting people before politics and leading with courage and serving with heart.

Please list below 3 key messages of your campaign. What are the main points you want voters to remember about your goals for your time in office?

Taking Action to Strengthen Education in Michigan: As a former School Board President, Lisa knows strong public schools are the foundation of our economy. In Lansing, she will ensure every school has efficient, targeted funding so students and teachers have the resources for a high-quality education. She supports better teacher pay, fair retirement policies, and funding for programs that prepare kids for the modern workforce. Prioritizing tax dollars in the classroom to support all learners is the key to strengthening our future. Lisa will also champion mental health support to ensure our students are safe and ready to learn. By focusing on results and sharing best practices statewide, we will keep Michigan schools moving forward.A Healthy Michigan: No family should face bankruptcy because of healthcare costs or see a child’s mental health go untreated. Lisa will fight to lower prescription drug costs by cutting red tape that keeps prices high. She will push for fair wages and safe working conditions for nurses and direct care providers, the backbone of our system, ensuring tax dollars support frontline care. She also champions price transparency for hospitals and insurers to stop unjustified rate hikes. As a Licensed Counselor, Lisa knows mental health care is essential. She will incentivize training for new providers and ensure fair licensing for professionals. She will work to make Michigan’s healthcare system affordable, transparent, and accessible for all.Responsible Investment in Local Priorities: Families and small businesses in Northville, Plymouth, and Livonia deserve a representative who is diligent about bringing resources back home. Lisa’s top priority is protecting our quality of life by securing our fair share of state funding for high quality public education, access to affordable health care and fixing critical infrastructure. With the fiscal discipline she gained on the Northville School Board, Lisa will ensure every state dollar is used for essential services. By focusing on responsible stewardship of precious resources, we will build a stronger future for the next generation and ensure our community is a premier place to live, work, and raise a family.

Responsible Public Investment for Stronger Communities: Families and small businesses in Northville, Plymouth, and Livonia deserve a representative who will bring resources home and use taxpayer dollars wisely. Lisa’s approach to public policy is simple: make life more affordable, strengthen our schools, protect clean air and water, and ensure everyone has access to quality, affordable health care. That means securing fair state funding for local services, investing in public education, and lowering health care costs while protecting patients, families, and workers. Guided by fiscal discipline and a commitment to results, Lisa will fight for policies that build a stronger, healthier, and more prosperous Michigan for the next generation.
