Who are you? Tell us about yourself.
Lindsay "Rubia" Garcia is no stranger to good trouble. Born and raised in Louisiana, she has witnessed firsthand what happens when elected officials fail the people they're sworn to protect.
An educator with over two decades of experience in classrooms, government programs, and community organizations, Garcia built a following of over one million across platforms by speaking truth about education failures in Louisiana — then turned that platform into a megaphone for advocacy nationwide. She also served military families through the U.S. Department of Defense's Morale, Welfare, and Recreation program.
When the 2019 Hard Rock Hotel collapse killed three workers, Garcia organized boycotts, held community forums, and stood alongside grieving families demanding accountability. She then drove over 30,000 miles across the country to stand with communities seeking justice for George Floyd.
A Southern University Law Center graduate, she earned top honors, the Justice John Paul Stevens Public Interest Fellowship, and interned with VOTE (Voice of the Experienced), working to restore rights for currently and formerly incarcerated individuals.
Now she's taking that fight to Congress. Her platform centers on affordability, infrastructure, healthcare, and social justice — grounded in an unwavering commitment to defending the Constitution and protecting democracy. She's not afraid of a fight — a fight for progress, for the people, and for Louisiana.
Please list below 3 key messages of your campaign. What are the main points you want voters to remember about your goals for your time in office?
Garcia is committed to defending the Constitution and protecting the rights it guarantees. Through her legal education and work with VOTE (Voice of the Experienced), she developed an understanding of how constitutional protections apply in real-world situations. Her work reviewing legislation for compliance with the U.S. and Louisiana Constitutions reinforced her commitment to safeguarding due process, equal protection, and freedom from unlawful searches and seizures. Garcia emphasizes accountability in government and the importance of checks and balances, often expressed in the principle “impeach, remove, imprison, repeat,” as a call for consistent enforcement of the law and meaningful consequences when officials violate the public trust.Garcia focuses on affordability and expanding economic opportunity for working individuals and families. She understands the financial pressures people face through her own experiences, recognizing that rising costs affect communities every day. In a district where many families are already struggling, these challenges are urgent. She supports policies to expand opportunity, including raising the federal minimum wage so full-time workers are not living in poverty, improving access to essential resources, and creating jobs through clean energy, infrastructure, healthcare, and small business growth. She also supports expanding access to capital through the Small Business Administration to invest in underserved communities.Garcia emphasizes expanding access to essential services and strengthening infrastructure that supports everyday life. She highlights the need for reliable and affordable access to healthcare, quality education, and basic systems people depend on. She supports closing the digital divide, particularly in underserved and rural areas, so people in her district, including farmers, can fully participate in the modern economy. Garcia backs investments in transportation and broadband to connect communities, support local agriculture, and drive long-term growth. Her approach ensures all communities have the access and affordability needed to succeed.
