In their own words

Who are you? Tell us about yourself.

I come from five generations of farmers and ranchers. I grew up on wildlife refuges — surrounded by open skies, winding rivers, and people who understood how deeply connected we are to the land and to each other. My parents taught me that when you see something that needs care, you don’t wait for someone else to fix it — you step in and do your part. Growing up in that environment taught me how to listen, how to work hard, and how to appreciate the delicate balance between people and nature. It’s where I learned responsibility — for the land, for the community, and for those who depend on both. That sense of duty and compassion guided me into a career in mental health. Over the years, I’ve worked on the front lines — as a counselor in a jail, overseeing crisis mobile teams, working in psychiatric hospitals, and doing homeless outreach. I’ve sat with people in their darkest moments — parents struggling to get clean so they can reunite with their kids, veterans haunted by trauma, teenagers who’ve given up hope, men behind bars trying to find purpose again. I’ve seen how broken systems and political inaction keep people trapped in suffering — and how simple, compassionate support can change a life. Those experiences shaped me. They made me a better listener, a stronger advocate, and someone who believes deeply that public service is about people. They’re why I’m running for office.

Please list below 3 key messages of your campaign. What are the main points you want voters to remember about your goals for your time in office?

Economic Security & Community Wellbeing:

I prioritize policies that strengthen long-term economic stability for working individuals and families across Arizona. This includes expanding access to affordable healthcare, improving behavioral health and mental health services, and addressing the rising cost of housing and basic needs. I support efforts to create and sustain living-wage jobs, invest in workforce development and job training programs, and ensure that workers have the supports they need to remain stable and secure. I also believe in strengthening community-based services that help prevent crisis, reduce inequities, and improve overall quality of life for families in both urban and rural areas.Climate, Water & Environmental Stewardship:

I support practical, science-based climate and environmental policies that protect public health and conserve Arizona’s natural resources. Coming from a family with five generations of farmers and ranchers and growing up around wildlife refuges, I understand the realities of land stewardship and resource management. I prioritize protecting Arizona’s water supply through long-term planning, conservation, and infrastructure investments that ensure sustainable access for communities, agriculture, and future generations.Education & Opportunity:

I am focused on strengthening public education by supporting fully funded public schools, improving teacher compensation, and addressing teacher recruitment and retention challenges. I support reducing barriers that prevent students from succeeding, including access to mental health services, school counselors, and wraparound supports. My experience working with teens and families informs my commitment to systems that recognize the whole student and promote academic success, emotional wellbeing, and long-term opportunity. I also support expanding career and technical education pathways, dual enrollment opportunities, and access to affordable higher education and workforce training.

What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?

I am focused on public policy related to education, environmental stewardship, water security, economic stability, and community wellbeing. This includes strengthening public education through funding and student supports, addressing Arizona’s long-term water needs through conservation and infrastructure planning, and advancing practical approaches to climate and natural resource management. I also prioritize improving access to affordable healthcare, mental health services, and housing, while supporting workforce development and economic policies that expand opportunity and stability for working individuals and families.

What characteristics or principles are most important for an elected official?

In Arizona's LD25, we share a lot of the same values I grew up with: hard work, fairness, and community. We believe in looking out for our neighbors, being good stewards of the land, and making sure everyone has a fair shot to thrive.

People in this district aren’t asking for perfection — they’re asking for leadership that listens, that puts people over party, and that acts with integrity. That’s what I want to bring to the State Senate.

What’s at stake isn’t just policy — it’s the kind of Arizona we want to live in. One where compassion, common sense, and collaboration win out over fear and division.

That’s why I’m running as a Clean Elections candidate — because I believe campaigns should be powered by people, not by corporations or lobbyists.

I grew up watching how a small group of dedicated people could protect entire ecosystems. That same lesson applies to communities — when people come together around shared values, we can protect what matters most.

I want to bring that spirit to the Arizona Senate — a spirit of service, fairness, and courage. I believe leadership starts with listening, it grows through understanding, and it succeeds when it serves everyone.

I’m Laura Huber, and I’m running for Arizona State Senate, LD25 to bring compassion and common sense back into our politics.
