Campaign websiteGillen's campaign website stated the following:A Voice for Nassau CountyIn her first term in Congress, Laura has worked tirelessly to bring Nassau County’s priorities to Washington and find common-sense solutions to the problems Long Island families are facing. She has fought to bring federal resources back home, lower the cost of living, bolster Long Island’s economy and make our communities safer. Since taking office, Laura has proudly secured over $50M in federal funding to Nassau County, including direct investments in public safety, clean water and resources for families and students. Laura hears from working families across Nassau County about how skyrocketing costs have made it too expensive to live on Long Island. She has been a leader in Congress working to eliminate the SALT cap, which has led to double taxation of Long Islanders. She has stood up against historic Medicaid cuts and helped pass reforms to crack down on insurance middlemen who are unfairly raising the cost of prescriptions. She has fought to restore critical ACA premium tax credits to lower the cost of health insurance by up to thousands of dollars a month for working families. Laura knows that Nassau County’s vibrant and diverse communities fuel our economy and make us who we are as Long Islanders. She has led the charge in Congress to extend TPS for law-abiding Haitians in Nassau County and across the country. As Haitian TPS holders face the possibility of being forced to return to the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Haiti, Laura has stood shoulder to shoulder with our Haitian neighbors. She is also fighting to protect our democracy and stop the Administration’s attacks on voting rights by pushing back against attempts to suppress access to the ballot box. Laura believes that elected leaders in Congress must stand their ground, work in a bipartisan manner and remain relentlessly focused on solving the challenges facing everyday Americans. She is continuing to fight for families and businesses on Long Island, and will work with anyone to deliver for New York’s 4th Congressional District.— Laura Gillen's campaign website (August 13, 2026)Note: This text is quoted verbatim from the original source. Gillen's campaign website stated the following:

Economy and Taxes

Too many Americans are struggling to pay their bills. Instead of finger pointing, I will work tirelessly in Washington to take on the affordability crisis facing hard working families. Repealing the unfair SALT tax cap that hurts New Yorkers will be an immediate priority. I will also take aim at the price gouging hurting Americans – like oil companies taking advantage of the gas crisis and seeking to boost their record profits even more. As Hempstead Supervisor, I consistently found ways to reduce costs for taxpayers and lowered taxes every year I was in office. I will bring the same fiscal approach to Washington to help the residents of NY-04 and to revitalize the middle class by protecting workers’ rights and address the housing crisis squeezing so many off of Long Island.

Crime and Gun Safety

In order to stem the spike in crime post-pandemic, we need to get illegal guns off our streets and out of the hands of criminals and the mentally ill. Contrary to what some may say responsible gun ownership and sensible gun legislation are not mutually exclusive. We need universal background checks and extreme risk protection orders (red flag laws) to address the ever-escalating rise in gun violence. We also need to direct resources in conjunction with our partners at the state and local levels to ensure the mentally ill can not get their hands on firearms and instead have access to medication and the treatment they need. In Congress, I will advocate for these items and federal funding for research on gun violence as a public health crisis.

Women’s Reproductive Rights

In a shocking and devastating setback for American women, The Supreme Court has recently overturned Roe v. Wade, leaving a woman's fundamental right to choose unprotected in many parts of the country. In 26 states, laws have already been passed – or will soon pass – that would strip rights from millions of women. This is especially harmful to those women – disproportionately poor women and women of color – who cannot take time off work or otherwise arrange to travel to New York and other states where the right to choose remains intact. I will relentlessly fight to protect American families from this governmental invasion into their personal lives. Women must have autonomy over their healthcare decisions. In Congress, I will work to remove any barriers to safe access to quality women’s health programs, choice, and family planning.

Voting Rights

Voter suppression has accelerated over the past decade, and the elimination of a key provision of the Voting Rights Act by the Supreme Court in 2013 in Shelby County v. Holder has removed critical safeguards intended to prevent obstructing the right to vote. In Congress, I will join the fight to protect and expand voting rights by advocating for legislation like the John Lewis Voting Rights Act that will secure access to the ballot box and strengthen our constitutional right to vote.

Health Care

All Americans deserve access to affordable, quality health care and no American should have to choose between paying their bills or taking their medication. I know firsthand the potentially negative effects of rising prescription drug prices. I will support measures that would help lower the cost of prescription drugs for Long Island families and seniors, such as giving the Medicare power to directly negotiate drug prices. In Congress, I will be committed to achieving better health outcomes while ensuring everyone has the coverage they need.

Mental Health

Our schools, our seniors, our veterans, and so many other Americans are experiencing mental health issues and need access to care. This need has only gotten worse in the wake of the COVID pandemic. In Congress, I will fight to devote more resources to increase access for individuals and schools all to get the mental health resources they need.

Veterans

Long Island is home to one of the largest veteran populations in the nation. It is our duty to honor and help those who served our nation. As Hempstead Supervisor, I proposed and passed legislation to give veteran-owned businesses a competitive edge in bidding for government contracts. I will continue this type of advocacy in Congress and fight against any reduction in funding and services at our Northport VA hospital.

The Environment

Climate change is wreaking havoc around the globe and in our local communities. As Hempstead Supervisor, I created a one-stop-shop at Town Hall to directly assist residents still rebuilding years after Superstorm Sandy. I also oversaw the revitalization of the town’s water testing lab. When it came to protecting our precious beaches, I addressed toxins washing up onshore and expanded the town’s shellfish hatchery, adding millions of oysters and clams to local waterways to filter and reduce pollution. In addition, Long Island water has the highest traces of 1,4 dioxane and PFOS, two likely carcinogens, in all of New York State. As Supervisor, I took on the big polluters and commenced litigation to help defer the huge cost of the filtration systems needed to remove contaminants. As a Member of Congress, I will continue these efforts to preserve and protect our shorelines and our Earth.

Pandemic Preparedness

The COVID-19 pandemic took a devastating toll on our lives, our economy, and our children’s education. The next pathogen is out there being developed right now, and we need aggressive policy and regulations to deal with future potential pandemics for risk identification and containment. I will take the lead in ensuring the United States is a world leader in pandemic prevention by championing funds for advanced vaccine development, increased access to testing, and better viral detection systems. In addition, we must properly fund federal oversight of research in this area, particularly dual-use research, to ensure technological advances don’t become threats to global public health.[20]
