In their own words

Who are you? Tell us about yourself.

Lance Byrd is a 56-year-old dedicated husband, father, and longtime Washingtonian running for State Representative in the 23rd Legislative District, Position 2. Raised in North Seattle by parents who taught him common sense and the value of living below his means, Lance brings a practical, results-oriented approach to public service.

He and his wife are proud parents of three children: two sons working at the Bremerton Shipyard and a daughter who is a medical professional literally saving lives every day. Kitsap County has been their forever home for years.

Lance entered the political arena because he is deeply concerned about the direction of our state. After watching one-party control lead to skyrocketing costs and struggling families, he wants to restore balance, accountability, and common-sense solutions in Olympia.

He believes everyone deserves a fair shot at opportunity and success — but that starts with getting the politics right: responsible budgets, lower costs for working families, and policies that actually work for the people of Kitsap.

A fiscal conservative who values hard work and self-reliance, Lance is committed to putting Kitsap families first.

Please list below 3 key messages of your campaign. What are the main points you want voters to remember about your goals for your time in office?

Kitsap families are struggling with high costs after years of one-party control and rapid budget growth. Even former Democratic Gov. Gregoire says we have a spending problem, not an income problem.

WA already collects $72B+ every two years without a broad income tax. Voters rejected it repeatedly. I'll work with Democrats, Republicans, and Independents for accountable budgeting based on population + inflation, better results on homelessness/addiction, and no new taxes squeezing middle-class families.

Balance means practical solutions that lower costs for housing, gas, and utilities. Moderates and Independents who want common sense over extremes. You don't need to be a Republican to vote for balance.Housing is unaffordable for too many Kitsap families. Growth Management Act reforms will let local communities build homes workers and young people need.

Parents deserve a real voice in education—knowing what’s taught and having input on their kids. These are common-sense issues for families across parties.

As a longtime resident, father, and problem-solver, I’ll bring balance and accountability to Olympia.Energy costs are hitting Kitsap families hard. Many support environmental progress, but policies like the CCA are raising gas and utility bills before the grid is ready.

Voters backed natural gas protections, yet the Democrat majority insists we phase it out in favor of expensive electricity. We need reliable, affordable energy now—using natural gas as a bridge to practical clean options like nuclear.

I’ll work across the aisle for honest cost-benefit policies that protect working families, businesses, and jobs without extremes. Independents and moderates deserve better outcomes.

What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?

Affordability: Housing, Gasoline, and Utilities

Voter Will: Income Taxes, Natural Gas, and Parental Rights

Fiscal Restraint: $80 Billion is outrageous. It needs to be reined in.

What organizations or individuals have endorsed your campaign?

Kitsap County Republican Party
