In their own words
Who are you? Tell us about yourself.
I am writing to formally introduce myself as a candidate for the North Carolina State Senate in District 22. As a Durham native, I am dedicated to implementing transformative initiatives for our community.
My legislative platform focuses on the following key areas:
- Labor: Supporting the unionization of teachers.
- Economic Development & Regulation: Establishing FDA manufacturing filters for cosmetic aesthetics, small business toiletries, hair products, and hospital equipment. This initiative includes local farmers' produce and restaurant meal-prep services, aimed at increasing employment within Research Triangle Park (RTP).
- Tax Reform: Implementing commercial property tax recess with sliding fee incentives and providing tax benefits to encourage home ownership.
- Education & Innovation: Protecting the intellectual property rights of university students and streamlining testing standards.
- Technology: Addressing frictional wages through the application of AI technologies.
I would welcome the opportunity to discuss my vision for District 22 with your readership. Thank you for your time and consideration.
Best regards,
LaKeshia M. Alston
