In their own words

Who are you? Tell us about yourself.

I was born in Great Falls and lived in Dillon, Victor and Helena before graduating from high school in Miles City. Growing up across Montana taught me the values of faith, hard work and service – values that shaped my life, and values that guide me today.

I've spent my career serving Montanans as a budget watchdog, a prosecutor and a nonprofit leader.

I’m running for U.S. Senate to make life more affordable, make our communities safer, and protect our Montana way of life. And I have the record to deliver.

As state budget director and revenue director, I helped cut wasteful spending, balance the budget, make Montana debt-free and deliver real tax relief for Montana families. Because I know that it's not the government's money, it's yours.

President Trump nominated me to serve as United States Attorney twice because he knew I would stand for law and order. As Montana's U.S. Attorney, I focused on prosecuting violent criminals and drug traffickers to keep our communities safe.

I’ve lived all over Montana and worked with people from many walks of life, including as President of the Yellowstone Boys and Girls Ranch Foundation and a nonprofit leader improving the lives of our children, our seniors, our sick, our poor, and our mentally ill.

Montana’s my home, and I want our kids and grandkids to have an even better life than we have, with the same freedoms and values that we hold dear. I'm Kurt Alme, and I'd be honored to earn your vote.

Please list below 3 key messages of your campaign. What are the main points you want voters to remember about your goals for your time in office?

I have experience balancing budgets and cutting taxes to put money back into the pockets of Montanans – to make life more affordable.

As Revenue Director, I spearheaded the largest income tax rate cut in state history – cutting the top rate nearly 40%. As Budget Director, I helped cut wasteful spending, balance the budget, deliver one of Montana’s largest tax cuts and make Montana debt-free.

To lower inflation, we must end DC’s reckless deficit spending. We must stop losing hundreds of billions of dollars to waste, fraud and abuse each year. And we need action to balance our budget - just like families do. That’s why the first thing I’ll do as Senator is introduce a bill that says: if Congress can’t balance the budget, we don’t get paid.We must make our communities safer. President Trump nominated me to be United States Attorney for Montana twice, because he knew I would stand up for law and order. Under my leadership this past year, criminal prosecutions hit a 20-year high and made our communities safer.

We must secure our borders, support law enforcement, prosecute violent criminals, and target drug trafficking organizations all the way up to the cartels – and tear them out by their roots. We must also reduce the demand for drugs with prevention and treatment.

As your Senator, I will fight to keep our communities safe and protect our families. We need to protect our Montana way of life which is embedded in three values: faith, hard work and service.

We want the freedom to live our faith and our conscience as free as possible from government intervention. We must protect that freedom.

We still believe all Montanans can succeed with hard work, no matter where we start in life. We need to keep the American Dream alive for our kids and grandkids.

We still serve our neighbors, without waiting for the government. We must keep stepping up.

These values will guide me as I fight for commonsense policies: taking care of our veterans, defending the 2nd Amendment, keeping boys out of girls’ sports, supporting our farmers and ranchers, protecting public lands, and securing our elections.

What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?

I’m not a career politician. I’ve never run for office before. I’m stepping up to run because Montana is my home. It’s where I was born, grew up, went to school, built a career, and raised my family. I want our kids and grandkids to have an even better life than we have, with the same freedoms and values that we hold dear. And I have the record to deliver.

I’ve been a public servant my whole life, and I’m ready to serve again. As I visit with Montanans across our state, they tell me they want their representatives to focus on making life more affordable, making our communities safer, and protecting our way of life.

I’m passionate about fighting for those results, making Montanans’ voices heard in Washington, and putting Montana first.
