In their own words

Who are you? Tell us about yourself.

Raised in Boulder, Colorado, I am a proud graduate of Fairview High School and a lifelong believer in the power of public education. I built a global career in finance and technology before launching a specialized law firm designed to shepherd leading technology institutions through various challenges including high-stakes litigation, budget shortfalls, critical hiring decisions, and countless other obstacles. My representation of entrepreneurs and leading technology companies led to my invitation to be an annual guest lecturer in law, technology, and entrepreneurship at his alma mater, Cornell University.

I remain deeply connected to my Boulder roots through my South Boulder based family and my commitment to animals. I co-founded Treeline Veterinary Cancer Care with my partner Dr. Karen Oberthaler in 2019 to bring cutting-edge cancer treatments to Colorado’s beloved dogs and cats.

Now, I am bringing my tech law background and my Boulder values to serve as a CU Regent. I am dedicated protecting the promise of a college education in the face of artificial intelligence impacting the jobs of recent graduates. I am committed to improving graduation rates at CU Denver and UCCS where they are below 50% over six years. And in a university where more than a third of the students are minorities, I will endeavor to be a minority leader that looks after their needs. .

Please list below 3 key messages of your campaign. What are the main points you want voters to remember about your goals for your time in office?

Preparing Students for the AI Economy:

Ensuring that CU actively prepares students for the rapidly changing workforce shaped by artificial intelligence and technological disruption. As a technology lawyer, Kubs works at the forefront of how AI is reshaping industries and hiring practices. He sees firsthand that many employers who traditionally hire new graduates are beginning to scale back entry-level hiring. CU must confront this reality directly by expanding interdisciplinary training, strengthening career pipelines, and equipping students with the skills needed to compete in an AI-driven economy so that their investment in a CU education delivers real opportunity.Improving Student Success and Graduation Outcomes:

Strengthening the systems that help students complete their degrees and realize the promise of higher education. Graduation rates at CU Denver and UCCS remain below 50 percent, and many of these students come from immigrant families or less-privileged backgrounds who see college as the gateway to a better life. When students take on significant debt but do not graduate, that promise can turn into a financial and personal hardship. Kubs believes CU must focus on targeted support, mentorship, and institutional accountability to ensure more students reach the finish line and succeed.Representation and Opportunity for Every Student:

Ensuring that CU leadership reflects and supports the full diversity of the communities it serves. Kubs is one of the rare minorities who grew up in Boulder, where his immigrant parents settled in 1979 when very few families looked like theirs. That experience shaped his understanding of what it means to navigate institutions that were not always designed with you in mind. He believes students from underrepresented backgrounds – whether defined by race, religion, sexual orientation, or socioeconomic status – deserve leaders who see their struggles, advocate for their success, and work to ensure that every student has the opportunity to thrive.

What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?

Ensuring equal access to higher education.

Guaranteeing affordable access to higher education.

Ensuing collective bargaining rights for CU workers.

Ensuring students can succeed after graduation in an AI economy.

Ensuring adequate representation of minorities in leadership.

Protecting the freedom of expression on campus.

Protecting choice in reproductive health for students and personnel.

Ensuring that research grants are not terminated arbitrarily.

Endeavoring to ensure that students with family incomes under certain thresholds have access to free tuition, room and board.
