In their own words
Who are you? Tell us about yourself.
I am Kristine “Krissi” Trow, a fourth-generation Derry native and Democratic candidate for the New Hampshire House of Representatives representing Derry’s District 13. I earned an Associate Degree in Science from NHTI and have spent more than 25 years as a Certified Dental Assistant and over 12 years serving customers at Shaw’s in Derry. I also spent 12 years as a Mary Kay Sales Director, where I developed leadership, communication, mentoring, and small business management skills while helping others build confidence and achieve their goals.
Throughout my career and volunteer work, I have focused on serving people and strengthening my community. As a parent, grandparent, and lifelong New Hampshire resident, I understand the challenges facing working families and the importance of strong public schools, affordable communities, and responsive government.
I am running for the New Hampshire House because I believe government should be transparent, accessible, and accountable to the people it serves. My goal is to bring practical experience, compassion, and common sense to Concord while always putting the people of Derry and District 13 first.
Please list below 3 key messages of your campaign. What are the main points you want voters to remember about your goals for your time in office?
Strengthening Public Education
Every child deserves access to a high-quality public education, regardless of their ZIP code or family income. I support investing in our public schools, ensuring educators have the resources and respect they deserve, and creating safe, supportive learning environments where every student can succeed. I believe public education is the foundation of a strong community and a strong economy. We must prioritize our neighborhood schools, support teachers, expand career and technical education opportunities, and ensure every child has the opportunity to reach their full potential.Lowering Costs and Supporting Working Families
New Hampshire families are feeling the impact of rising property taxes, housing costs, healthcare expenses, and everyday necessities. I will work to make our state more affordable by supporting responsible fiscal policies, expanding access to affordable housing, protecting healthcare, and investing in programs that help working families, seniors, and children. I believe government should focus on practical solutions that improve people’s daily lives while being accountable to taxpayers.Protecting Our Communities, Veterans, and Natural Resources
As a fourth-generation Derry resident, I care deeply about preserving the community that generations of families have called home. I will advocate for our veterans by supporting access to the benefits, healthcare, and services they have earned through their sacrifice. I am also passionate about protecting New Hampshire’s wildlife, conserving our natural resources, and preserving the outdoor spaces that make our state special. Strong communities are built by supporting the people who serve, protecting our environment, and ensuring future generations can enjoy both.
What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?
I am passionate about strengthening public education, supporting our veterans, helping working families, protecting individual rights, improving access to affordable housing and childcare, and ensuring government is transparent and accountable. I believe every child deserves a quality education, every veteran deserves the respect and support they have earned, and every resident deserves to have their voice heard. I am also committed to protecting New Hampshire’s natural resources, supporting wildlife conservation, and preserving the outdoor spaces that make our state special. My goal is to build stronger, healthier communities where people of all ages can live, work, and thrive.
Who do you look up to? Whose example would you like to follow, and why?
I admire people who dedicate their lives to serving others with integrity, compassion, and humility. I have tremendous respect for teachers, first responders, veterans, healthcare workers, wildlife rehabilitators, and community volunteers who quietly make a difference every day. Their commitment to service reminds me that leadership is not about recognition—it’s about showing up, listening, and working hard to improve the lives of others.
What characteristics or principles are most important for an elected official?
Integrity, honesty, transparency, accountability, and compassion are the qualities I value most in an elected official. Public servants should listen to their constituents, respect differing viewpoints, communicate openly, and make decisions based on facts and the best interests of the people they represent. Leadership means being willing to work across differences, admit mistakes, and always put the community ahead of personal or political interests.
What do you believe are the core responsibilities for someone elected to this office?
A state representative’s primary responsibility is to listen to the people they serve and represent their voices in Concord. That includes carefully reviewing legislation, making thoughtful decisions based on facts and community input, protecting taxpayer dollars, strengthening public education, supporting veterans and working families, and ensuring state government remains transparent, accountable, and responsive to the needs of New Hampshire residents.
What legacy would you like to leave?
I hope to leave a legacy of bringing people together to solve problems with respect and compassion. I want to be remembered as someone who listened, worked hard, and always put the people of Derry first. If my work helps strengthen public education, support veterans and working families, protect New Hampshire’s wildlife and natural resources, and inspires others to become involved in their communities, I will consider my service a success.
What was your very first job? How long did you have it?
My first job was at Shaw’s Supermarket in Derry, New Hampshire. I worked there for over 12 years, where I learned the value of hard work, customer service, teamwork, and serving my community. Those experiences continue to influence how I approach leadership and public service today.
What is something that has been a struggle in your life?
One of the greatest challenges in my life has been being a single mother while working full time. Navigating systems that are often difficult to access, filled with paperwork and red tape, gave me firsthand insight into the challenges many working families face. Those experiences strengthened my determination to advocate for practical solutions that make government more accessible and responsive to the people it serves.
What responsibilities of this office do you personally consider the most important?
The most important responsibility of a state representative is to listen to the people they represent and be their voice in the legislature. That means carefully reviewing legislation, making informed decisions, protecting taxpayer dollars, strengthening public education, supporting veterans and working families, and remaining accessible, transparent, and accountable to constituents throughout the entire term—not just during election season.
Are there any little-known powers or responsibilities held by this office that you believe more people should be aware of?
Many people don’t realize that New Hampshire state representatives review and vote on hundreds of bills each legislative session that directly affect education, healthcare, veterans, public safety, taxes, housing, environmental protection, and local communities. Representatives also serve on committees where much of the detailed work of shaping legislation takes place. Just as important, state representatives are expected to be accessible to their constituents—listening to concerns, helping people navigate state government, and ensuring their community’s voice is heard in Concord. I believe voters should know how much impact this office has on their everyday lives.
What organizations or individuals have endorsed your campaign?
American Federation of Teachers – New Hampshire (AFT-NH)
What was the first historical event that happened in your lifetime that you remember?
One of the first major historical events I remember was the Space Shuttle Challenger disaster in 1986. Like many people in New Hampshire, it had a profound impact because Christa McAuliffe, a teacher from our state, was on board. It was a heartbreaking moment that reminded me how deeply national events can affect local communities.
