Who are you? Tell us about yourself.

Kristie Bruce-Lane is a businesswoman and an elected Director of Olivenhain Municipal Water District. She serves as the Vice President as well as on many committees prioritizing and providing San Diego families with access to high-quality and affordable drinking water. She has proven there are still leaders who can get things done in California. From the day she took office, she has been committed to bringing accountable, transparent government and being a visible representative with experience that reflects the voices of our communities. Following her successful private sector careers in Healthcare and Agriculture, she devoted her life to public service. She is the Founder and President of the Thumbprint Project Foundation, CoC Member Regional Task Force on Homeless and Board Member on the Door of Hope/Salvation Army Homeless Sub-Committee focused on homeless children impacted by Childhood Domestic Violence. She is a policy leader in homelessness and the needs of children in our community. As a Board Member on the San Diego Council on Literacy, she has a unique insight into why our schools are failing and is passionate about improving education. She has served as the Chair for Business Partnerships on the Board of the Academy of Business and Technology where she financially bridged underserved students to college. She knows that taxes are too high, the homelessness epidemic is out of control, and Sacramento politicians are driving Californians out of state.

Please list below 3 key messages of your campaign. What are the main points you want voters to remember about your goals for your time in office?

Homelessness is growing rapidly. I am the only elected official in this race that has experience working to address our homeless crisis that is now a humanitarian crisis. The bad policies stemming out of Sacramento and the indirect consequences have fostered our next generation of homeless. Our most vulnerable, our children were caught in the cross-fire of these bad policies and will suffer the ramifications for many years to come.Public safety is a priority. My work on behalf of crimes involving children tells me that our criminal justice system is failing us. Also, the reclassification of felonies to misdemeanors has contributed to soaring crime rates. I realize the importance of supporting victims of crime, law enforcement , children, families, and our communities. I know that balancing the scales of justice is crucial for public safety. I will stand up for what is right, fair and just as I work alongside elected leaders and community members with character and integrity.Advocating for our children in schools and providing safe learning environments is crucial. California's literacy rate is the lowest in the nation. 46% of 3rd graders in the San Diego Unified School District - the second largest in CA - do not meet reading and writing requirements. 50 % of our 4th and 8th graders in CA do not meet reading and writing requirements. If our children reach the 4th grade and do not meet the standard they are on the drop out track. These are essential, transferable skills our children need to graduate, gain employment and have opportunity in life. In addition, I will protect our children behind the gates of schools as we see an increase in bullying and anti-semitism. Our children should be thriving-not surviving.

What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?

Healthcare, Aging and Long-Term Care, Agriculture, Public Safety and Water.
