In their own words
Who are you? Tell us about yourself.
I am running for the Michigan State Senate in District 3. For nearly 30 years, I have worked in public policy, community advocacy, and civic engagement, building bipartisan coalitions to address complex challenges and improve quality of life for families and neighborhoods.
I began my public service career on Capitol Hill as an intern, then spent over a decade in the district office of Congressman John Conyers Jr., assisting residents with federal agencies and government services. Later, as Policy Director for Detroiters Working for Environmental Justice, I led the Detroit Climate Action Collaborative, which developed Detroit's first Climate Action Plan. This work earned me recognition as a White House Champion of Change.
I own a small business specializing in advocacy, stakeholder engagement, and coalition-building. I also serve as Director of Political Relations at my church, helping faith communities engage thoughtfully in civic life. Previously, I served on the City of Detroit Board of Zoning Appeals.
Throughout my career, I have lectured nationally on environmental justice, civic engagement, and public policy. If elected, I will provide experienced, collaborative leadership in Lansing and work to advance practical solutions that strengthen communities, expand economic opportunity, and improve government accountability.
Please list below 3 key messages of your campaign. What are the main points you want voters to remember about your goals for your time in office?
Michigan families are experiencing higher costs for water, energy, auto insurance, housing, and child care. I am committed to helping reduce these expenses, improving educational opportunities, expanding affordable child care, and supporting economic mobility. Every family should have the chance to succeed, and every senior deserves dignity and support. My goal is to help residents retain more of their earnings and ensure the government serves the people effectively.Strong communities depend on safe neighborhoods, successful small businesses, and affordable housing. I will support effective public safety measures, responsible economic growth, and targeted investments to strengthen our commercial corridors and neighborhoods. Every resident deserves a community where families thrive, businesses succeed, and government is responsive. As senator, I will be present, listen, and deliver results. For nearly 30 years, I have united people to address challenges and achieve results. My background in serving congressional constituents, leading Detroit's first Climate Action Plan, and supporting nonprofits and small businesses has prepared me to serve effectively from day one. I will provide experienced, collaborative, and accountable leadership in Lansing, with a consistent focus on strengthening District 3 and improving the lives of its residents.
What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?
I am committed to advancing policies that enhance the daily lives of Michigan residents. My priorities are supporting seniors and caregivers, strengthening education, expanding affordable child care, reducing utility and auto insurance costs, and fostering small business growth and job creation. I believe every family deserves safe communities, affordable housing, and opportunities for economic mobility.
