Please list below 3 key messages of your campaign. What are the main points you want voters to remember about your goals for your time in office?

The reason that I entered this race was to protect public education. Public schools are my passion and I have the knowledge to lead the discussions on the critical issues. I am not afraid of having difficult conversations and working towards solutions. We need to get the economy back on track. Our small business owners have had to work extremely hard during the pandemic. Almost 50% of all KY workers are employed in small business. We need to make sure that they return to prominence and are not burdened by unnecessary restrictions as this industry is the heartbeat of our economy. We are in uncertain times with the state budget. We need people who are grounded in practice to be making calls about our scant fiscal resources. Having transparency will be key with this. Being open and clear about difficult decisions are what we need right now.

What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?

I am passionate about many areas of public policy. Public Education, Criminal Justice Reform, Revenue Streams, Tax Reform, Agriculture, and infrastructure development. With working for the school system as long as i have, i have been given the opportunity to learn about so many different areas. I am looking forward to going to Frankfort to share what i have learned from serving in the public sector for over 20 years.

Is there a book, essay, film, or something else you would recommend to someone who wants to understand your political philosophy?

Mr. Smith goes to Washington. "Lost causes are the only ones worth fighting for."

What characteristics or principles are most important for an elected official?

Transparency in decision making.

Communication with all parties and stakeholders at frequent intervals.

Bipartisanship so that other viewpoints are heard and valued.

Consistency with decision making to allow for trust building to occur.

What qualities do you possess that you believe would make you a successful officeholder?

I believe that i communicate my ideas well and can build consensus by using logic and in a manner that gets people to see the benefits. I also believe that i am loyal and transparent. Both of these qualities build trust. Lastly, I am truly passionate about helping people. All people. We are on this planet to serve on another. This office will give me the opportunity to serve so many more people. I want to help.

What do you believe are the core responsibilities for someone elected to this office?

Responsiveness to the needs of their constituency and the Commonwealth.

Calmness in the presence of critical events and stressful situations.

Open mindedness to deal with situations that are out of the experiences of the legislator.

What is the first historical event that happened in your lifetime that you remember? How old were you at the time?

The first significant historical event that i remember clearly was the Space Shuttle Challenger disaster in 1986. I remember watching it in my 5th grade classroom when we lived in California. I didn't understand why it happened. I was deeply saddened about it occurring but did not talk about it. My teacher was not big on social emotional learning and we never discussed it and we didn't discuss it at home at length. I remember asking my (scientist) dad about the risks and whether or not it was worth the risks to try something so dangerous. He told me that they were working on ways to make the trips safer and that science would push people to try more and more things in the industry. He cited missile defense and the opportunity to do experiments in a weightless environment. Neither of these consoled my sorrow for the people who died, especially the teacher.

What was the last song that got stuck in your head?

"Changes" by 2Pac or "My Way" by Frank Sinatra

Do you believe it’s beneficial to build relationships with other legislators? Please explain your answer.

I don't believe that it is beneficial to build relationships. I believe that it is CRITICAL. Half of my district is republican and half democratic. I MUST reach out to represent the other major part of my constituency. This is not an option. I also believe that in order to be the most successful representative that I can be, I need to form strong relationships with others in order to help them gain perspectives and help me gain valuable insight. Decisions based on consensus are the most powerful.

If you are not a current legislator, are there certain committees that you would want to be a part of?

I am going to pursue being on the education committee. I have vast experience in this role and have a myriad of skill sets to really add a needed perspective to the committee. I have not decided on the others yet.

Are you interested in running for a different political office (for example, the U.S. Congress or governor) in the future?

No. My purpose for running for the house of representatives is to be a voice for the people of the 45th district. This is not about me and my aspirations. Its about filling a need for the people of the district by having representation be versed in all walks of life and having served the public previously. I will serve in the role until i feel that i am not doing the job with the same fervor as i feel is necessary.
