In their own words

Who are you? Tell us about yourself.

I am Kevin Gerrard, and I am running for Idaho State Senate in District 31.

I grew up in East Idaho, graduated from Ririe High School in 2005, and now live in Rigby with my husband, Justin. I work as a REALTOR® in East Idaho, where I spend a lot of time listening to families, homeowners, first-time buyers, seniors, and local residents who are trying to navigate rising costs, housing pressure, and growth in our communities.

My work has given me a practical view of the challenges facing Idaho families. Property taxes, housing affordability, infrastructure, water, schools, and public safety are not abstract issues to me. They are issues I hear about from people regularly.

I serve on the Snake River MLS Board of Directors and have previously been involved with the Ririe Coalition for Community Development and the Ririe Chamber of Commerce. I am running because I believe District 31 deserves practical leadership that listens first, respects local communities, and focuses on solutions that make sense for the people who live here.

Please list below 3 key messages of your campaign. What are the main points you want voters to remember about your goals for your time in office?

Lower the pressure on Idaho families. Rising property taxes, housing costs, and everyday expenses are putting real pressure on families, seniors, and working Idahoans. I support targeted property tax relief for primary homeowners, careful oversight of government spending, and policies that reduce pressure without simply shifting the burden somewhere else.Keep decisions close to the people they affect. Local communities understand their own needs. I believe the state should respect local decision making whenever possible, especially on issues like growth, infrastructure, schools, public safety, and land use.Protect what makes East Idaho strong. District 31 depends on strong schools, reliable first responders, responsible water management, access to public lands, and communities where families can afford to live. My goal is to bring practical, local experience to the Legislature and work with people across party lines when it benefits our district.

What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?

I am especially passionate about property taxes, housing affordability, public education, first responders, water, local control, and public lands access. Across East Idaho, property taxes and cost of living are real concerns. I support targeted, responsible relief focused on primary homeowners, especially seniors, families, and people on fixed incomes. As a REALTOR®, I see how difficult housing affordability has become for first-time buyers, working families, and seniors. I also believe strong public schools, well-supported first responders, responsible water management, local decision-making, and continued access to public lands are essential to strong Idaho communities.
