In their own words

Who are you? Tell us about yourself.

Kelly Hunter Kalagidis: Lifelong Columbus Resident, Educator, & Community Advocate

Born and raised in Columbus, my roots in this city run deep. I am married, the proud parent of an adult child, and for 37 years, my Orthodox Christian faith has been the anchor of my values, guiding how I live, serve, and lead.

Education is not just a policy position for me—it is my life’s work. As a graduate of Columbus City Schools, I spent 16 years teaching in CCS classrooms, seeing firsthand both the potential of our students and the challenges in our public schools. To help shape the future of learning, I later contracted with charter schools and supervised upcoming teachers at The Ohio State University and Ashland University.

Four and a half years ago, I brought my dedication to the corporate sector, working in supply chain operations. Managing supply chains taught me the practical realities of business logistics, fiscal responsibility, and the real-world economic pressures facing families and small businesses today.

I bring a unique perspective: 16+ years in public and alternative education, higher education teacher preparation, corporate logistics experience, and a lifetime grounded in faith and family.

I understand our community because I am a product of it. I am running to bring practical, common-sense solutions, strong integrity, and a proven track record of service to work for you and your family.

Please list below 3 key messages of your campaign. What are the main points you want voters to remember about your goals for your time in office?

1. Student-First Education That Works

As a former 16-year Columbus City Schools teacher, TESOL subcontractor in charter schools, and OSU/Ashland teacher supervisor, I know education from the inside out. I will focus on academic fundamentals, support our teachers, and ensure every student gets a high-quality education that prepares them for real jobs and real success.2. Protecting Parental Rights

Parents know what is best for their children—period. I stand for complete curriculum transparency and protecting your authority over your family’s values, health, and upbringing. School districts should work with parents, not around them.3. Real Property Tax Relief

Soaring property taxes are pricing families and seniors out of their own homes. Drawing on my corporate supply chain background, I bring business discipline to local governance. I will fight to cap unfair tax spikes and keep more of your hard-earned money in your pocket.

What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?

Whether you are buying your first home, raising a family, or looking toward retirement, we all want accountable leadership, affordable living, and strong schools. With 16 years in the classroom, higher education experience, and private-sector business management, I bring practical solutions that respect your wallet, empower your family, and strengthen our community.
