Who are you? Tell us about yourself.

Kelly Chapman was born in Waterville, Maine in 1978 and relocated to Las Vegas in 1979 as an infant with her mother, Kathy. Growing up on the east side of Las Vegas, Chapman developed an in-depth understanding of the local community. She completed her education at Chaparral High School in 1996 and that same year, welcomed her son into the world. Witnessing the challenges faced by two generations within the Clark County School district, Chapman is motivated to drive positive change for both students and teachers in Assembly District 8.

In 1999, Chapman embarked on a career in the casino industry, starting as a blackjack dealer. As a third-generation casino employee, her expertise and dedication swiftly propelled her to a managerial role as a Table Games Pitboss. Her experience in this diverse environment has honed her ability to connect with individuals of varied ages, races, cultures, and socioeconomic backgrounds—skills invaluable for a political career.

Tragedy struck in 2012 when a close friend of Chapman's was murdered by a handyman hired by an estranged husband. This prompted her to become a vocal advocate for domestic violence victims and the Second Amendment. She firmly believes in the importance of empowering women to protect themselves and their families. With a vision for a safer community, Chapman aims to introduce more supportive programs to assist women and children in escaping abusive situations where they may feel financially or emotionally trapped.

With a focus on supporting law enforcement, advocating for smart crime prevention strategies, and empowering communities to work together, Kelly is committed to ensuring that our district remains a safe and secure place to live, work, and raise a family.Kelly Chapman is unwavering in her commitment to tackling inflation reform in Nevada Assembly District 8, advocating for responsible fiscal policies that safeguard families and businesses. With a focus on prudent budgeting, reducing regulatory burdens, and fostering an environment conducive to economic growth, Kelly aims to alleviate the strain of rising costs and ensure a prosperous future for all residents of our district.

What is the first historical event that happened in your lifetime that you remember? How old were you at the time?

The Challenger explosion. I was 8.

What do you believe is the ideal relationship between the governor and state legislature?

The ideal relationship is one that is working together effectively to serve the needs of Nevada's residents, not their own.

Do you believe that it’s beneficial for state legislators to have previous experience in government or politics?

Not necessarily. I believe it is more important to have life experience and representatives from many different career fields.
