Background

Kellie Streeter earned a high school diploma from Apollo High School and a bachelor's degree from Kentucky Wesleyan College in 2004. Her career experience includes working in government administration. As of 2024, Streeter was affiliated with the Indiana County Commissioners Association and the Association of Indiana Counties Board of Directors.[1]

Who are you? Tell us about yourself.

I have dedicated myself to serving the communities of Southwest Indiana. I am the Administrator of the Daviess County Health Department and the President of the Knox County Board of Commissioners.

First caucused into the office in 2016, I currently serving in her eighth year as a Knox County Commissioner. As Commissioner, I have worked to build partnerships with municipalities within the county and work collaboratively with the County Council.

I serve on several boards and commissions where I advocate for Southwest Indiana including, the Good Samaritan Hospital Board of Governors, the Knox County Indiana Economic Development Corporation Board of Directors, the Association of Indiana Counties, the Indiana Behavioral Health Commission. I am the current President of the Indiana County Commissioners Association.

Originally from rural Kentucky, I have made Southwest Indiana my home. I reside in Freelandville, where my three children, Beau, Allie, and Tucker, attend or have graduated from North Knox Schools. I have two grandchildren. I am a member of Word of Life Church in Bicknell. I also serve as the Vice Chair of the Knox County Republican Party.

Please list below 3 key messages of your campaign. What are the main points you want voters to remember about your goals for your time in office?

I will stand for protecting local control. I will protect our agriculture assets and property rights.Road and bridge funding for rural Indiana is critical for our viability. I will advocate for Counties infrastructure needs and its priority in the road funding formula decisions.We must continue to invest in ways to bring providers into the rural healthcare system, address reimbursement rates for rural hospitals/emergency medical services, support services for infants and children to break the cycle of adult criminal justice related issues and costs

Sustainable Behavioral and Mental Health Workforce/Systems.

Sustainable Road Funding Plan.

State and Local Tax reform.

Accessible healthcare for rural Indiana.

Support for our first responders and veterans.

What characteristics or principles are most important for an elected official?

Honest, ability to listen, stand up and speak for the people that you serve, accessible and principled.

What qualities do you possess that you believe would make you a successful officeholder?

As a County Official I have been very successful because of my ability to build relationships with all municipalities, businesses, not-for-profits, State officials, hospitals, public safety agencies, and agriculture no matter their size, political affiliations or subject. I can effectively mediate and find solutions instead of building barriers and forcing a stalemate.

What do you believe are the core responsibilities for someone elected to this office?

A Representative must be connected to the County, City and Town officials, residents, farmers, businesses, schools in the District so that they can responsibly write, pass, propose amendments and defend legislation for/or against District 45.

What do you believe is the ideal relationship between the governor and state legislature?

An open door policy, both ways, for open communication so that all Hoosiers have the best representation possible.

What do you perceive to be your state's greatest challenges over the next decade?

State and local tax reform.

Health insurance practices and Medicaid reform.

Do you believe that it’s beneficial for state legislators to have previous experience in government or politics?

Yes.

Yes. We all need to work together and understand the needs of all Hoosiers so that our decisions do not negatively impact anyone.

Are you interested in running for a different political office (for example, the U.S. Congress or governor) in the future?

No.

Both sitting legislators and candidates for office hear many personal stories from the residents of their district. Is there a story that you’ve heard that you found particularly touching, memorable, or impactful?

I often hear stories of families that have battled with mental health and addiction that have recovered and saved their life, their children's lives and healthy babies be born because of programs and support that I have worked hard on and will continue to.

Should the legislature oversee or grant the use of emergency powers?

Yes.

What is the first bill you would introduce if elected?

Expansion of the State Disaster Relief Fund.

Bio-diesel tax credits.
