In their own words
Who are you? Tell us about yourself.
"Strengthen Iowa families" is my primary goal. Iowa is an amazing place to live, work and raise a family. I'll do everything possible to make Iowa even better and never become a state like California.
Please list below 3 key messages of your campaign. What are the main points you want voters to remember about your goals for your time in office?
SAFER COMMUNITES
Without public safety, nothing else works - look at areas like Detroit.
Iowa State patrol provides police functions for small communities and is chronically understaffed. We need to increase hiring and overall numbers.
Appoint more judges to speed the adjudication of dangerous criminals.
Minimum mandatory sentences to keep activist judges from releasing criminals back into society.
Prison should rehabilitate - offer trade and GED opportunities, counseling services and church activities.
Build a new state prison for overcrowding - this will provide an economic engine for a small Iowa community and keep serious criminals off the streets.
Solve the rural EMT crisis.BETTER IOWA SCHOOLS
Iowa used to rank in the top 3 nation-wide for education. Now, we're not even in the top 20.
Enhanced student discipline. Remove chronic, problem students that interfere with the classroom environment.
Increased teacher pay to a minimum of $60,000 annually.
Focus on math and reading skills for early elementary children.
Embrace the individual learning that A.I. will bring to the classroom.
Keep focusing on pre-K, early childhood development.
Identify the bottom 5% of Iowa schools and send an "Educational SWAT" team to them for revival or closure.
Embrace trade development in high schools for non-traditional students who love "working with their hands".A CANDIDATE'S BACKGROUND IS IMPORTANT
I worked for the City of Council Bluffs for 29 years.
I am a current Pottawattamie County Supervisor. There, I lead 460+ full time employees and a budget of over $110 million.
I serve on several boards - CB Airport Authority, SWI Juvenile Detention Board, MAPA, Board of Health and PACE. I am a 30 year member of First Christian Church CB.
I was the union president for 4 years for the CB FOP, Iowa Lodge #1 and my father was a union postal employee.
I have an Accounting degree from the University of NE and have worked on municipal budgets for multiple years.
My family has lived in Pottawattamie County for over 140 years and many live here now.
What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?
PUBLIC SAFETY - I'm a retired police lieutenant who will most assuredly be appointed to the Public Safety committee and help make Iowa safer from day #1.
EDUCATION - education is the best way to raise a family to the middle class.
CANCER RESEARCH - Iowa is 2nd in the nation for new cancer cases. We have to find out why and reverse the trend.
ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT - Iowa is in the bottom 5 of the nation for this and we have to expand out work opportunities.
RURAL HEALTH - we have to stop small, rural hospitals from closing and strengthen volunteer EMT membership.
INFRASTRUCTURE - we have too many dangerous rural bridges that need to be overhauled.
