In their own words
Who are you? Tell us about yourself.
I am running for State Representative in the 91st District because this community is home and I want to work for the good people I share this home with to create and support legislation that makes lives better. For 27 years, I have lived, worked, volunteered, held elected and appointed positions, and with my husband raised my family here. I know the challenges we face and I believe in the opportunities ahead. My priorities reflect the values of our community: sensible taxation, strong public schools, support for local economic growth, and a steadfast commitment to the dignity of every person. I am a business person with an M.B.A. turned business professor. My career experience includes being a nationally recognized business professor, operating a consulting practice focused on small business success, and working at the national and regional levels in both the profit and not-for-profit sectors. I currently serve a second term on the Gettysburg Area School District board and am a trustee of the Adams County Library System.
Please list below 3 key messages of your campaign. What are the main points you want voters to remember about your goals for your time in office?
Sensible Taxation and Strong Public Schools. Pennsylvania ranks 45th in the nation for state share of funding for K-12 education. We can do better. The state of Pennsylvania has no special revenue stream earmarked for education. Property owners continue to be the primary funders of public education. As your state representative, I will forge partnerships to explore identifying or creating other revenue streams to provide some relief to property owners, especially families and those on a fixed income. I will prioritize responsible state funding so our public schools can support every student and attract excellent teachers.Local economic growth. My M.B.A., experience as a successful business person, and expertise as a business professor uniquely position me as a promoter of economic growth. I will advocate for small businesses and agribusiness initiatives to encourage greater profitability and fuel job growth. I’ll be responsive to the needs of our businesses and help ensure state grants earmarked for small business and agribusiness are invested in our district. The dignity of all people. I put people over politics. I believe the state representative has the opportunity to make lives better through shaping and supporting legislation. My initial efforts will relate to two areas I continue to be asked to work on. I will work toward legislation that supports people who work in the district being able to live in the district. I will work toward legislation that supports growth but not by losing the district’s rich rural heritage.
What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?
Every area of public policy is vital to personal and economic well-being, and none should be overlooked. The challenges people in my district face every day with rising costs of some of the most basic life needs and the fast-paced development growth in my district draw me to Housing and Development Policy, and Environmental Policy. My career expertise and volunteer experiences uniquely position me to focus on Economic and Fiscal Policy, and Education Policy.
