In their own words

Who are you? Tell us about yourself.

I am a Registered Nurse, mom, and proud South Dakotan. I know first hand the challenges working families face.

As a young mom, I worked my way through nursing school, funded largely by the Pell Grant, while holding down a job and raising my young son. I relied on Medicaid to ensure my family had access to healthcare. My family and I had a safe, stable place to grow because of income subsidized housing. That support didn't hand me a successful life, but it gave me a chance to work for it.

I know what it’s like to need support and work hard for opportunities. And, I also know how important it is to give back.

Today, I’m a Registered Nurse caring for people in our community, a mom raising my children here in Sioux Falls, and someone who believes every family deserves the same opportunities that this community gave to me: a foundation to build a successful future.

Too many families are being stretched to the breaking point. The cost of childcare, housing, groceries, and healthcare keeps rising while politicians in Pierre focus on issues that divide us, instead of helping people.

I’m running for the South Dakota House of Representatives because families deserve leaders who understand what working people need. Not just in theory, but from real life experience.

In Pierre, I’ll fight for affordable healthcare, strong public schools, support for working families, and policies that help people move forward.

Please list below 3 key messages of your campaign. What are the main points you want voters to remember about your goals for your time in office?

I will always support people first policies. This means keeping top of mind the real needs of families instead of political distractions. It means making healthcare more affordable, supporting public education and teachers, protecting workers, investing in safe communities, and making sure people can afford housing, child care and basic necessities.I will focus on affordability for all South Dakotans to ensure secure futures for all SD families. I believe government works best when it helps everyday people build stable, healthy lives and gives everyone a fair shot at success.I commit to transparency, accountability, and to listen and understand the needs of my constituents to fairly represent the people of District 10.

What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?

Public schools and healthcare. Education and healthcare are the foundation to build a strong future and everyone deserves fair access to both. We must commit to fully supporting South Dakota's kids to reach their full potential and be successful.

What organizations or individuals have endorsed your campaign?

District 10 Representative Erin Healy, South Dakota House Minority Leader.
