Background

Karmen La'Shaun Miller graduated from Silver Creek High School. She earned a bachelor's degree from Tennessee State University in 1989, a graduate degree from Illinois State University in 1999, and a degree from Georgetown University in 2019. Her career experience includes working as an administrator.[1]

Who are you? Tell us about yourself.

I am an Educator (PK- Graduate Level) with the background necessary to be an asset to the NSHE Board representing urban and rural constituencies. In addition, I have a background in corporate and community service serving in multiple leadership positions. I possess a grow mindset with a broad band perspective and a proven professional skill base with governmental and social justice agencies. I am a servant leader, aware of the challenges of the state, with a growth mindset, and ready to move toward solutions that equitably represent the people of Nevada.

Please list below 3 key messages of your campaign. What are the main points you want voters to remember about your goals for your time in office?

Equitable economic distribution and sustainability of tax payer funds; their must be a balance and fair negotiaitons.Diversification of the economy through building skills at our higher education locations as well as providing supportive services to students that may be changing careers. This would also help attract and retain talent grown locally and those that seek to come to our colleges, universities, and research centers. This includes outreach to our veterans, rural communities, and youth.Development and expansion of authentic relationships with local students of all ages to attend our higher education locations.

What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?

Educational Access for all; Changing the funding formula to be in alignment with 2026 forward and not 1957 while working with public education agencies with in the state; Transparency and communication about our institutions meant to grow Nevada, leaving no one behind.
