In their own words

Who are you? Tell us about yourself.

I am the best choice for Michigan's Senate District 28 not only because of my experience and commitment to small business; strong, safe, healthy communities; and government accountability when spending OUR money, but because I have a track record of bringing people together, recognizing we all have strengths and talents, celebrating strengths and improving weaknesses, efficiently strategizing reasonable solutions to challenges, and listening. I know we are stronger together and in order to get anything good done in our State, we have to work together. I know this district and appreciate the diversity of it. I am grateful for the opportunity to run for this office. I am the right person for the job.

Please list below 3 key messages of your campaign. What are the main points you want voters to remember about your goals for your time in office?

Economic opportunity. This means getting government out of the way of small business and allowing business to grow and thrive. This means a reduction in regulations that make it so difficult to build, expand, and employ. Businesses are the heart of any community. Without them, communities decay and residents are negatively impacted in everything from financial to housing to schools to the safety of themselves and their families.Fiscal Accountability. This means that I want to look at the legislative spending of OUR money and reduce it in areas that lacks accountability or true positive outcomes while also looking at gaps in services where some funding might be used for the betterment of our communities and families.Community strength. This is a huge piece of our puzzle. It means good schools (how in the world did we get to 44th our of 50 in reading levels of our young kids?), housing options that are available and affordable, safety, mental and physical health services that include prevention, respect, support and appreciation for our neighbors and pride in our neighborhoods. I have been committed to this message most of my life and as a State Senator, I promise that I will work every day to further build strength in our District 28.

What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?

Education/skilled trades and building an employable, motivated work force; agriculture; business development (including manufacturing); public safety; fiscal/development and accountability; housing; human services; heath care and prevention.
