In their own words

What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?

Healthcare, Environment, Women & LGBTQIA+ rights, Social Justice,

What legacy would you like to leave?

I would like to help craft legislation that makes an impactful change on Americans, both now and future generations. Legislation that leaves the world a better place than we found it.

What is the first historical event that happened in your lifetime that you remember? How old were you at the time?

The first historical event that happened that I remember, was 9/11. I was 12 years old, and I was sitting in 3rd period Geography. I remember teachers coming in and out and talking in hushed voices. Cell phones weren't mainstream yet, so I couldn't get online and find out what was happening. They finally turned on the TV that was in our classroom. At 12 years old, you understand that something terrible had happened, but you don't quite understand the severity of it. I remember my teachers crying all day. They sent us home after lunch, and when I got home, my parents, like my teachers, were glued to the TV. They explained to me, being the oldest, that there were people who wanted to attack us, because of the freedoms that we had in America. I remember the days following the attack, and the stories of my perseverance, triumph, grief and emotional defeat that so many people, especially the citizens of NYC, were feeling. The sense of togetherness that we felt as Americans for the months following...we were able to put aside our differences, because we all had one common thing that brought us together.

What is your favorite book? Why?

The Ride of a Lifetime by Bob Iger. To see a man go from being a stage supervisor with ABC to being the Executive Chairman of one of the most admirable companies in the world, is the most perfect example of the American Dream.

Do you believe that it's beneficial for representatives to have previous experience in government or politics?

I don't think it's crucial for representatives to have former experience in government in politics. The U.S. House are supposed to be the ones who are closest to the Americans that they represent. They should be normal, hardworking Americans, because that's who they represent.

What do you perceive to be the United States' greatest challenges as a nation over the next decade?

I believe that over the next decade, the biggest challenges are rebuilding our democracy, and ensuring equality for all Americans.

If you are not a current representative, are there certain committees that you would want to be a part of?

The committees that interest me most are, Ways and Means, Foreign Affairs, Homeland Security and Oversight and Reform.
