Who are you? Tell us about yourself.

My family and I moved to North Carolina in 1993, during my freshman year in high school. While it was an adjustment coming from New England to the south I absolutely fell in love with this great state.

Throughout my professional career, I have worked in Information Technology and Field Operations for multiple Fortune 500 companies including AOL, AT&T and Mattress Firm.

During Covid I, like many Americans, was laid off due to closures throughout the country. My dad, a disabled Vietnam Veteran, asked me to move from Texas back to North Carolina to take care of him and my mother. For the last three years I have been a caregiver to both of them, caring for my father as he's dealt with bone breaks from multiple falls. This has led to an increased understanding of how veteran's benefits work as well as an insight in how we can improve the system to support our warriors.

I am running to serve the people of District 60. I will work day in and day out to be a voice for the constituents and represent their will in the assembly.

Please list below 3 key messages of your campaign. What are the main points you want voters to remember about your goals for your time in office?

Public safety is tantamount to a thriving community. Over the course of the last three years we have witnessed an unprecedented attack on our brave members of law enforcement, coupled with judges who no longer believe in prosecuting crime. I will fully support our law enforcement officers and fight for their ability to take criminals off of our streets. Our education system was decimated during Covid, leading to a horrendous reduction in the aptitude levels of our children. Couple that with the introduction of inappropriate learning material, especially in the curriculum of our younger children and it's no wonder why students are testing at a much lower level than pre-pandemic numbers. I will voraciously fight to protect the future of our students, ensuring that basic tenets of education - Reading comprehension, mathematical ability, writing competence and actual scientific education - are the core of our curriculum. Our southern border has become a superhighway for illegal entry to our country, with invaders from over 190 countries pouring in unchecked. Here in NC, and in District 60, we are already seeing an influx of these illegal aliens. I will work with the legislation to ensure that these individuals, whose backgrounds we are unaware of, are not relocated to our neighborhoods. There are legal pathways for entering this country for a reason and we need to adhere to the laws that are already in place, while strengthening our security with new legislation.

What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?

I am very passionate about Veteran's affairs. Seeing firsthand the challenges my father has gone through for care while also seeing how, in relation to many others, he has been lucky has led me to pursue this direction. It is a travesty that those who were willing to fight and die for the freedoms we all enjoy are treated like second class citizens upon returning to civilian life. I will fight to support these individuals through meaningful legislation and funding until every veteran is taken care of.

What characteristics or principles are most important for an elected official?

The characteristics and principles most important for an elected official are integrity, humility and a servant mindset. I believe that many of our elected officials have forgotten that they exist to serve their constituents, not the other way around. This leads many to act unethically and induces a failure to admit when they are wrong.

I will work day in and day out to represent the will of the voters in District 60. This includes showing up and voting every time in order to give a voice to the residents of the district.

What qualities do you possess that you believe would make you a successful officeholder?

During my time as a Field Operations Supervisor at Mattress Firm corporate headquarters, or BedQuarters as we called it, in Houston I was responsible for roughly $100 million in inventory across 80 distribution centers throughout the country. I also worked with international vendors. Events we ran were spread out across the United States; sometimes more than thirty ongoing at one time. Time management, precision and interpersonal skills were the keys to my successful administration of those events; whether it was coordinating the setup of an event and the timely transfer of inventory or reporting on successes and failures to C-Suite executives, these skills can be directly translated to holding the position of Representative in the General Assembly.

What was your very first job? How long did you have it?

My first job was at the Great American Cookie Company at Oak Hollow Mall in High Point. I was a senior in High School at the time and started as a part time employee. I worked diligently and worked my way up to Store Manager, increasing year over year revenues by 30%. This was my first leadership position and, while I only had about 10 employees, it would work to become the foundation for cooperating with people from different walks of life.

Do you believe that it’s beneficial for state legislators to have previous experience in government or politics?

While prior experience can be beneficial in the sense that someone will already understand how the process of legislating works, it should not be a hinderance to a candidate. Experience does not equal aptitude and runs the risk of leading to apathy. An inexperienced candidate with drive has the potential to accomplish even more as a means to both proving themselves and enriching the district they represent.

Do you believe it’s beneficial to build relationships with other legislators? Please explain your answer.

I absolutely believe it beneficial to foster relationships with other legislators. This can lead to trust which, while negotiating points of a bill or garnering support, can be the deciding factor for whether a draft is introduced or not.
