In their own words

Who are you? Tell us about yourself.

My name is Jose Vera, and I am a resident of Janesville, Wisconsin. Running for U.S. Congress in Wisconsin’s 1st District in 2026 as a Republican because I believe our district deserves strong, energetic leadership that puts working families and local communities first.

I have a background in insurance, where I helped develop a bilingual life insurance program at American Family Insurance to better serve Latino families in Wisconsin. I am also deeply committed to issues affecting veterans, having seen firsthand through family members the challenges many face after service.

I ran because I believe in securing our borders, protecting Wisconsin farmland from overdevelopment, and pushing back against policies that raise costs for working families. I believe in America First principles and putting the interests of American citizens above foreign interests and corporate influence.

Please list below 3 key messages of your campaign. What are the main points you want voters to remember about your goals for your time in office?

Data Centers - These massive data centers keep getting pushed into our communities with very little transparency. They threaten our farmland, put pressure on our water supply, and drive up electric bills for working families while the profits go to out-of-state corporations. I believe we need real federal regulations to protect Wisconsin families and our land. We shouldn’t have to sacrifice our communities so big tech can build wherever they want. If we don’t push back now, these projects will keep coming and regular people will keep paying the price.America First - I believe in putting America and Wisconsin first not foreign countries, not global corporations, and not political insiders in Washington.

That means securing our borders, supporting our veterans, protecting American jobs, and making sure our farmland and resources aren’t sold off or exploited. Our leaders should work for the people who actually live here, not for special interests and foreign agendas.

America First isn’t just a slogan. It’s how this country should operate.Accountability - Too many politicians get comfortable in Washington. They show up for photo ops, collect a paycheck, and do very little to actually fight for the people they represent. We need leaders who are willing to work, speak up, and challenge the status quo not just go along with it. Our district deserves someone who will actually show up and fight instead of staying quiet and comfortable. If we keep electing the same type of politician, we’ll keep getting the same results.

What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?

I am passionate about policies that protect Wisconsin communities and put American citizens first. I strongly believe we need real federal regulations on data centers to protect our farmland, water resources, and keep energy costs from rising for working families.

I also care deeply about securing our borders, supporting veterans, and ensuring that our leaders prioritize the interests of American citizens over foreign countries and large corporations. I believe in holding politicians accountable and moving away from career politicians who become too comfortable in Washington and stop fighting for the people they represent.
