Who are you? Tell us about yourself.
Jordan Wood is a former Capitol Hill Chief of Staff and pro-democracy advocate. He grew up in Lewiston and Gardiner and is raising his family in Auburn. The son of a teacher and a pastor, Jordan’s family lived mostly paycheck to paycheck.
Jordan has spent his career leading the fight against Donald Trump. Barricaded in the Capitol during January 6th, Jordan recognized the threat of Trump’s election denials and co-founded the bipartisan organization, democracyFIRST, which successfully defeated dozens of election deniers around the country who would have had direct oversight on elections.
As VP of End Citizens United, Jordan spearheaded the No Corporate PAC Pledge to refuse corporate PAC money, now taken by 20% of Democrats in Congress. As Chief of Staff to Congresswoman Katie Porter, he helped take on Wall Street banks and powerful financial interests by passing new laws to protect consumers.
In Congress, Jordan will fight to rein in Wall Street and Big Pharma, stop Trump's lawless ICE agents from terrorizing Maine, pass Medicare for All so every Mainer has access to healthcare, and protect Social Security. He will work to cap childcare costs at $10 a day, crack down on hedge funds buying up single-family homes, and support the Ultra-Millionaire Tax to fund investments in working families. He'll enact sweeping campaign finance reform, ban congressional stock trading, protect abortion rights, and reject all corporate donations.
Please list below 3 key messages of your campaign. What are the main points you want voters to remember about your goals for your time in office?
The American people are losing trust that our government can address big problems, indeed the challenges facing my family as I grew up have not only persisted, but in many cases have gotten worse. We need to show people that we can address the major issues of the day through the legislative process.I will fight to rein in Wall Street, Big Tech, and Big Pharma, stop Trump's lawless ICE agents from terrorizing Maine, pass Medicare for All so every Mainer has access to healthcare, and protect Social Security benefits. I want to cap childcare costs at $10 a day, crack down on hedge funds buying up single-family homes, and support the Ultra-Millionaire Tax to fund investments in working families. He'll enact sweeping campaign finance reform, ban congressional stock trading, protect abortion rights, and reject all corporate donations.Elected officials must lead by example, that is why I will never accept corporate PAC or lobbyist donations, will hold town halls in every county every year, and never trade individual stocks as a Member of the House of Representatives.
What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?
The cost of childcare is a burden on too many families. We can make it so working families pay no more than $10 per day. This will be a huge help to families and give our economy a needed boost.
As VP of End Citizens United, I spearheaded the No Corporate PAC Pledge to refuse corporate PAC money, now taken by 20% of Dems in Congress. Getting this money out of our politics is critical to remind elected officials that they work for the people.
We need a Medicare for All universal healthcare system. For too long, healthcare has prioritized corporate profits over people. In Maine, too many families struggle to get care close to home. I’ll fight to make sure every Mainer has access to quality, affordable care, no matter their ZIP code.
