In their own words

Who are you? Tell us about yourself.

Jordan Hensley was raised in Ohio and moved to Florida in 2013. He attained a Bachelors Degree in Business Management from Mount Union College in 2008. After moving to Florida Jordan began bartending in Clearwater and has continued bartending in the area to this day. As a resident of Pasco Jordan has seen the changes that have been happening to the area over time. Things are getting more and more difficult for the hardworking individuals in this state. Costs are rising, wages aren't keeping up, urban development is replacing nature, pollution is going unchecked, and the government isn't doing enough for its constituents. Jordan works paycheck to paycheck and wants to represent the people like him who are struggling to make ends meet. He's not backed by any politicians, corporations, or major political organizations, he just wants to make the decisions for the future of our state that are going to benefit the people. Jordan and his wife live in Port Richey with their dog Chewie.

Please list below 3 key messages of your campaign. What are the main points you want voters to remember about your goals for your time in office?

Affordability - It's something a lot of people are talking about. In the decade + that I've lived here, things have grown more and more expensive. From utilities, to insurance, to gas, to groceries everything has risen in price. If elected to the Senate I hope to do what I can to help the constituents of District 21 to lower prices in anyway that I am able. Work on getting health and homeowners insurance down, getting more options available to residents of the state to have more choices. Working with Public Service to lower utility prices. Lowering taxes for the middle and lower classes instead of the uppermost classes. Cutting out tax breaks for major corporations and putting that money back into the district. The Environment - Coastal Florida is a major destination for vacationers and tourists. As a bartender, a lot of the people I deal with in my business are due to this industry. We owe it to ourselves and the people whose livelihoods are based on having people come to our state. Which is why I think we need to institute stronger restrictions on the pollution that goes on in our area. The coast, the rivers, the nature, and more are all being negatively affected by pollution and overdevelopment. Our state is issuing tax incentives for data centers to be built in districts just like ours. They raise the temperature in the area, use far too much energy, produce waste water, and damage the local environment. We need to put a stop to it.Public Education - An educated populace is better for everyone in it. We have continuously lowered our expectations. We have been increasingly diverting funds intended for public schools to private institutions. That money should be redirected back into our public schools. We need to bolster our teachers, raise our standards for hiring educators, get more teachers on school boards and positions where they can influence curriculum, and support these people throughout their careers. Schools can use additional funding for better supplies, newer textbooks, and additional programs to provide more rounded educations. We need to better fund schools so they can better educate our future.

What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?

Recently I came across something called "The 80%" bill. Issues that across our country the general public all seem to support (or at least 80% of it). These are issues that, if given the opportunity in the Sentate, I will work to implement. Things like banning stock trading for legislative members, ending Lobbying and overturning CItizens united, working to lower the costs of prescription drugs, reforming and working to end illegal gerrymandering, banning corporate entities from purchasing single family homes, paid family leave, and more. These are all issues that are facing all of us as individuals, and I think it is in the best interest of the people to work towards these goals.
