In their own words

Who are you? Tell us about yourself.

My name is Jonathan Hersman, and I’m running for District 18 in the House of Delegates to put people over politics.

I’m proud to call Mason County home. Like many families here, I care deeply about our community—our schools, our jobs, our roads, and the opportunities we leave for the next generation. I’m running because I believe our government should work for the people, not political agendas.

I’m committed to listening to our neighbors, standing up for working families, and bringing practical, common-sense solutions to Charleston. Whether it’s supporting local economic growth, improving infrastructure, or protecting the values that make our community strong, my focus will always be on making Mason County a better place to live, work, and raise a family.

This campaign is about us—our future, our voice, and putting people first.

Please list below 3 key messages of your campaign. What are the main points you want voters to remember about your goals for your time in office?

Education Reform

Our education system needs real improvement. Ranking near the bottom is not acceptable for our children or our future. It’s time for change. I will fight to strengthen our schools, support our teachers, and make sure every student in our district has the opportunity to succeed.Infrastructure Investment

We must invest in our infrastructure—our roads, bridges, and public systems. Safe and reliable infrastructure is essential for our economy and everyday life. I will work to ensure our communities get the funding and attention needed to fix, maintain, and improve what we rely on.Responsible Growth and Local Protection

Data centers are coming whether we like it or not—but we must make sure they benefit our community, not harm it. I will fight to ensure Mason County receives its fair share of tax revenue, that these projects create jobs for local residents, and that they do not place unnecessary burdens on our citizens.

What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?

I am passionate about improving education, strengthening our infrastructure, and protecting our local communities as we grow.

Education is especially important to me because I work as an administrator and see firsthand the challenges our students and staff face every day. From limited resources to increasing demands, it’s clear that our schools need stronger support. I want to be a voice for our educators, our students, and our families to ensure they have the tools and opportunities they deserve.

At the end of the day, I’m passionate about putting people first and making sure Mason County remains a great place to live, work, and raise a family.
