Salka's campaign website highlighted the following issues:
Ethics Reform
Albany is awash in backroom deals that get made behind closed doors. I will push hard for transparency and equal representation for all New York residents, regardless of political affiliation. I will work to pass meaningful ethics reform and will not hesitate to challenge the political elite in Albany to open the Public's doors, and bring in fairness and transparency to our legislative process.
Healthcare Reform
I will work to increase the school-based health centers, so that our young people will have access to good-quality care. There is a high need for programs that treat the number of childhood chronic diseases. For our senior citizens, I will work to institute programs that increase the level of medical literacy, so that our older generation will be able to better understand their medications, and how to take them. My goal will be to improve the delivery of health care to our rural areas by working with hospitals and clinics throughout the region.
Education Reform
In order to make sure our teachers have the tools and funding they need, I will call for the repeal of Gap Elimination Adjustment (GEA), and an increase in Foundation Aid. Special education will be another one of my priorities, and I will work hard to make sure EVERY student gets a fair and equitable education.
Agriculture
Agriculture is the backbone of the upstate economy, and I will work tirelessly to make sure that our farmers have every availability to market their product downstate, and I will advocate for product diversity in our agricultural community. We are seeing an expansion in the growing of hops and organic farming in our region, and these operations need to be encouraged and supported. I will make sure that our agricultural community is represented by an assemblyman with the energy and ideas to support our farmers, and provide a strong voice in Albany.
Small Business
I will work to repeal the Scaffold Law, and push for worker's compensation reform. I will not support the $15.00 per hour minimum wage. It is my firm belief that if businesses are allowed to flourish and grow, increased wages will follow. The$15.00 minimum wage will wreak havoc on our farmers and small businesses.[8]

Salka's campaign website highlighted the following issues:[10]
Taxes
Excerpt: "As your assemblyman, I will propose the following: doubling the STAR property-tax exemption for all homeowners, a move that would save the average homeowner an additional $700 annually and seniors $1,300, and 30 percent income tax rate cut for families making less than $300,000 per year, saving each middle-class taxpayer an average of $1,033 annually."
Education reform
Excerpt: "When it comes to providing a world-class education, our state is failing. Instead of being a leader in education, we rank close to the bottom nationwide. This must change. The first step is revamping our broken system and repealing the Common Core standards that have devastated our students and teachers alike."
Accountability and accessibility
Excerpt: "As our Assemblyman, John Salka will bring the same energy and enthusiasm he has brought to the office of Brookfield Town Supervisor. He wants our residents to be involved in our government and if elected, he will reach out to constituents through a series of district wide town hall meetings and summits, so he can bring their voices with him to Albany."
Small business advocacy and reform
Excerpt: "As Assemblyman, he plans on bringing the perspective of the small business owner to Albany and cut the red tape and restrictions that make it so hard for an entrepreneur to succeed, much less make payroll and ends meet."
Energy
Excerpt: "With his experience as chairman of the Madison County Energy Committee, John Salka has been a proactive advocate for cutting-edge technologies and low-cost renewable energy for residents. This advocacy is what John plans to bring to the Assembly, so our residents can have the high-quality, affordable energy they deserve."
