Hjersman issued the following statement regarding his bid for office:[1]

To stand for freedom, the Constitution, the free market, and smaller government. I would like to change the direction of Colorado toward more freedom.

I have never run for public office before. Whenever I have gotten an unfamiliar job, I have learned to perform its duties to a high standard. I would spare no effort to achieve a high level of performance as Representative for District 16.[6]
