In their own words

Who are you? Tell us about yourself.

John A N Chee is the Oregon First Republican candidate for Oregon State Senate District 17.

Born and raised in the Bethany neighborhood of Portland, Oregon, John lives in the same house he grew up in. A graduate of Westview High School, he earned both Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Computer Science from Portland State University. He built a successful career as a software engineer in the San Francisco Bay Area, working at innovative startups and major technology firms including X (formerly Twitter).

While in California, John witnessed firsthand the destructive consequences of radical leftist governance — skyrocketing taxes, family breakdown, crime, and anti-American cultural policies.

John is running because Senate District 17 — covering Bethany, Oak Hills, Cedar Mill, Northwest Portland, Linnton and everywhere in between — desperately needs a fighter willing to challenge the failed leftist status quo. He champions lower taxes, biblical marriage, the sanctity of life, and support for young men entering the trades, building homes, starting families, and becoming providers.

John rejects “equity” schemes that discriminate against young native Oregonian men. Instead, he fights for equal-weights-and-measures justice, economic sovereignty, and policies that put Oregon families first. He believes the strength of our civilization rests on strong fathers leading strong families.

John is committed to restoring the values, security, and opportunity that once defined Oregon.

Please list below 3 key messages of your campaign. What are the main points you want voters to remember about your goals for your time in office?

Lower Taxes and Economic Sovereignty.

Oregon families are being devastated by some of the highest property taxes in the nation and endless broad-based tax increases. As your State Senator, I will fight to dramatically reduce property taxes, eliminate taxes on family inheritances, and cut burdensome regulations that punish small businesses and home builders. Government has no right to steal the earnings and future of our children before they’ve even begun their working lives. We must return money to the productive citizens of Senate District 17 — the working men and women of Bethany, Cedar Mill, Oak Hills, and Northwest Portland — so that they can keep more of what they earn, build wealth, and pass it on to the next generation.Defending Traditional Family Values.

The greatest threat to Oregon is the radical assault on the natural family. I stand without apology for biblical marriage between one man and one woman, the sanctity of innocent human life, and the protection of children from state-sponsored gender mutilation and ideological indoctrination. The traditional family — built on fathers who work, mothers who nurture, and children who are raised with moral clarity — is the foundation of a healthy civilization. I will oppose every piece of legislation that promotes abortion, sterilizes minors, or erodes parental rights. We must champion policies that strengthen marriage, support motherhood, and restore the dignity of fatherhood in Senate District 17.Investing in Young Men — The Future of Our District and Oregon.

Young men are the most neglected and demonized group in modern America. In Senate District 17, I will make their success my highest priority. That means supporting the trades, removing barriers for local home builders and first-time buyers, prosecuting vagrancy and open drug use, and creating an economic climate where young men can get good jobs, afford homes, marry, and raise strong families. A civilization that fails its young men will not survive. I reject “equity” based policies that discriminate against straight White Christian men and instead seek policies that put meritorious Oregonians first. The future of Oregon depends on the strength of its young men.

What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?

I am deeply passionate about policies that restore the traditional family as the foundation of a healthy society. This begins with removing the tax burdens that are crushing young families — especially punitive property taxes that make homeownership nearly impossible for the next generation.

I will fight for policies that help young men get good-paying jobs in the trades, afford a home, marry, and raise children without the state constantly taking their earnings.

I stand firmly with generational Oregon families and their small businesses. Too many multi-generational farms and enterprises are being taxed and regulated out of existence. We must protect their ability to pass wealth and heritage to their posterity.

What do you believe are the core responsibilities for someone elected to this office?

Put Oregonians and Oregon first.

Do you believe that compromise is necessary or desirable for policymaking?

There are non-negotiables and negotiables in policymaking. The sanctity of innocent life is a non-negotiable, how to optimize road performance vs. road safety is a negotiable.
