Background

John Carmichael, as of February 2020, lives in Wichita, Kansas. He earned degrees from Wichita State University and the University of Kansas. Carmichael’s career experience includes working as an attorney and as an adjunct faculty member with Wichita State University. He was appointed to the Governor’s Committee on Kansas Libraries by Governor Joan Finney and has been a Chair of the Kansas Human Rights Commission and a Chair of the Kansas Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training.[1]

What would be your top three priorities, if elected?

Medicaid Expansion, Stopping Tax Cuts for the Wealthiest Kansans, Preserving Kansas Children's Right to an Education.

What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?

Preservation of our system of justice and the individual rights it protects. Having spent my professional lifetime in the practice of law, I value the important role of free and independent courts in our democracy.

If you are a current legislator, what appealed to you about your current committees?

As Ranking Member of House Judiciary I am able to use my education and experience to support the Constitution and rule of law.
