Who are you? Tell us about yourself.
Joe Moss is a conservative Republican, business owner, and Ottawa County Commissioner. He assumed office on January 3, 2023, and was re-elected to a second term beginning January 2, 2025. Moss served as Chair of the Ottawa County Board of Commissioners from 2023-2024.
Born in 1985, Moss earned bachelor’s degrees in Accounting and Marketing from Cedarville University in 2008. He built technology companies serving clients in Michigan and across the United States.
Joe and his wife Suzy are raising their family in Hudsonville, Michigan. He entered public service after experiencing government overreach during the COVID-19 pandemic, when his daughter’s school was shut down and families were threatened for making their own decisions.
In 2021, Moss co-founded Ottawa Impact with Sylvia Rhodea. The organization mobilized citizens to protect parental rights and oppose government overreach. In 2022, Ottawa Impact PAC helped elect eight Republican candidates—including Moss and Rhodea—flipping the Board of Commissioners. The sweeping victory enabled immediate, bold reforms.
Moss led results-driven reforms, including eliminating Ottawa County’s DEI department—the first local government in the nation; fiscally responsible policies to protect taxpayers; working with RFK Jr.’s HHS to oppose wasteful spending; expanding the Veterans Department; working to keep the J.H. Campbell Plant open.
Moss is a proven leader running for HD-89 to bring courageous, experienced leadership to Lansing.
Please list below 3 key messages of your campaign. What are the main points you want voters to remember about your goals for your time in office?
Proven Leadership & Real Results: As County Commissioner and Board Chair, I led the charge to eliminate DEI (first local government in the nation), strengthened parental rights, advanced fiscal responsibility, and defended local control—delivering accountability when it mattered most.Protect Children & Families First: Parents—not government—should guide the care and upbringing of their children. I stand for childhood innocence, pro-life values, and keeping decisions at the family and local level.Courage to Act, Record to Prove It: My record demonstrates my commitment to defend liberty, reject passivity, and lead courageously. Michigan needs steady, principled leadership to repeal bad laws, reduce taxes, cut waste, defend constitutional freedoms, and prioritize local control.
What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?
Protecting parental rights and children’s innocence; eliminating government waste and DEI-style policies; promoting local control (especially on land use, energy, and agriculture); pro-life policies; fiscal responsibility and tax relief, including the elimination of income and/or property taxes; constitutional freedoms including religious liberty, free speech, and the Second Amendment; election integrity; supporting veterans and small businesses; and energy reliability to protect jobs and families.
