In their own words

Who are you? Tell us about yourself.

I'm a Democratic State Legislator, attorney, and former chief financial officer running for State Treasurer to make life easier, better, and more affordable for Nevada's working families. I currently represent my childhood district in Henderson where I'm raising my three daughters with my college sweetheart, Marina.

I am the only candidate in this race that has both the legislative experience and financial experience needed to make the most of the office. I’m a sitting State Assemblymember with a proven record of supporting working families. I voted to protect SNAP benefits, cut the price of insulin, and crack down on Wall Street buying up single-family homes. I've also championed and passed complex legislation that has already helped that state generate millions in new revenue to fund critical services.

Prior to my legislative career, I earned my Economics degree from Boston University, worked as the chief financial officer of a technology company, and began my legal career working with some of the world’s largest sovereign wealth funds, venture capital funds, and other financial institutions.

I've built a strong career of legal, financial, and legislative experience, and I'm excited to build on the work I did in the State Assembly and put that experience to work supporting Nevada families as our next State Treasurer.

Please list below 3 key messages of your campaign. What are the main points you want voters to remember about your goals for your time in office?

Affordable Education: I will fight to save the Millennium Scholarship from insolvency by modernizing unclaimed property laws to create a long-term funding solution. I am the only candidate with a funding plan to save the Scholarship--our best college affordability tool--and keep our college promise to Nevada students for generations to come.Jobs and Affordable Housing: I've proposed and will fight for a historic $300 million dollar investment through the State Infrastructure Bank in affordable housing, infrastructure, and union jobs so we can support homegrown economic development and lower housing costs. I will also continue to work with Legislature to crack down on Wall Street buying up single-family homes so families don't have to compete with private equity funds for the home of their dreams.Consumer Protection: I will fight to expand the office's financial literacy and consumer protection services. I will also work to better protect seniors and other vulnerable Nevadans by partnering with the Attorney General's office to assist with the investigation and prosecution of online fraud and financial crimes.

Who are you? Tell us about yourself.

I am a privacy, technology, and AI attorney with Silicon Valley experience, a former small business owner, a first-generation college student, and a proud father of 3 daughters. I grew up in a working-class union family in Henderson, Nevada. My mother is a health care worker and my father was a Navy veteran who primarily worked as a poker dealer while I was growing up. Before beginning my legal career, I graduated with high honors from both Boston University (Political Science & Economics) and the University of Michigan Law School. I grew up in Assembly DIstrict 29 and am now raising my kids about a mile from my childhood apartment. I’m running to serve the Henderson community that raised me, and to build a better future for my girls.

Please list below 3 key messages of your campaign. What are the main points you want voters to remember about your goals for your time in office?

I believe building a stronger public education system is critical to the future of our state. As a first-generation college student from a working-class family, I can attest to the transformational power of an education. I am committed to giving every kid the same opportunity I had growing up.I am committed to diversifying and growing Nevada’s economy. Our reliance on tourism puts our economy in a precarious position when tough times hit. I will fight to ensure we are a competitive landing spot for new businesses and industries that will bring durable, high-paying jobs to our community.I will always protect civil liberties, including a woman’s right to choose. There is no right more fundamental than the right to bodily autonomy, and as a father of three young girls, I will never compromise on protecting their rights and access to reproductive healthcare.

What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?

Education, Economic Development, Childcare, Housing, Healthcare

What characteristics or principles are most important for an elected official?

Honesty, Accountability, Integrity, Open-Mindedness, and Compassion

What legacy would you like to leave?

I’d like to leave my community and my state better than I found them, and I’d like my kids to be proud of their dad for the work I did.

What was your very first job? How long did you have it?

My first job was as a food service worker at Dairy Queen during high school.

What do you perceive to be your state's greatest challenges over the next decade?

One of the greatest challenges will be the economic impacts of AI and automation. As AI tools rapidly develop, businesses will be able to achieve the same productivity with leaner staffing. Many jobs could be permanently eliminated. It will be incumbent upon us as state leaders to ensure we’re bringing new opportunities to workers that are displaced, giving them access to training resources to increase their qualifications, and establishing a sufficient safety net to keep folks afloat.
