What do you believe is the ideal relationship between the governor and state legislature?

I believe that the ideal relationship between the governor and state legislature should be one of collaboration, cooperation, and shared goals. Instead of viewing each other as adversaries, both the governor and the state legislature should work together as partners to serve the best interests of the state and its citizens.

In this ideal relationship, the governor and state legislature should engage in open and constructive dialogue, valuing diverse perspectives and ideas. They should actively seek common ground and find innovative solutions to address the challenges facing the state. This requires a willingness to listen, compromise, and work towards consensus, putting aside partisan differences for the greater good.

Furthermore, the governor and state legislature should have a clear understanding of their respective roles and responsibilities. The governor should provide strong leadership, setting the vision and agenda for the state, while the state legislature should exercise its legislative powers to enact laws and policies that reflect the needs and aspirations of the people.

Transparency and accountability are also essential in this relationship. Both the governor and state legislature should be accountable to the public, ensuring that their actions are transparent and aligned with the principles of good governance.

By fostering a collaborative and forward-thinking relationship between the governor and state legislature, we can create an environment where innovative ideas can flourish, and effective policies can be implemented for the betterment of the state and its residents.

What do you perceive to be your state's greatest challenges over the next decade?

I recognize the importance of border protection, water consumption, new technologies, state Medicaid, human health services, and public education, I believe that our state will face several significant challenges over the next decade. These challenges require forward-thinking and proactive solutions to ensure a prosperous and sustainable future for Arizona.

One of the greatest challenges Arizona will face is border protection. Given our proximity to the international border, it is crucial to address border security issues effectively. We must find a balance between ensuring the safety and security of our communities.

Water scarcity and consumption is another pressing challenge. As a desert state, Arizona heavily relies on water resources, and our growing population and economic development put a strain on our water supply. We need to implement innovative water management strategies, invest in water conservation technologies, and promote responsible water usage to ensure a sufficient and sustainable water supply for future generations.

In addition, we must address the challenges in state Medicaid and human health services. Access to affordable and quality healthcare is essential for the well-being of our citizens. We need to work towards improving access to healthcare services, expanding Medicaid coverage, and investing in preventive care to ensure that all Arizonans have the opportunity to live healthy and productive lives.

Furthermore, public education is a critical challenge that we must address. Providing quality education for our children is essential for their future success and the overall prosperity of our state. We need to invest in our public schools, support our teachers, and ensure that every student has access to a high-quality education that prepares them for the jobs and challenges of the future.

Should the legislature oversee or grant the use of emergency powers?

I believe this philosophical question is an important one and I can say personally the impact of emergency powers has had on our state through pandemic and also to ensure balance of government remains. The balance of government is important and no one branch is greater than the other.

Guard rails are important and I believe that judicial ruling helps with this oversight.

What is the first bill you would introduce if elected?

The first bill I plan to introduce is towards presumptive protections in the obligation that are public safety officers have access to healthcare regardless of workers cop ruling when identified as a presumptive healthcare diagnosis. This means that if a first responder were to have cancer, a Cardiac event or mental health concerns, they would be eligible to join the public safety, retirement health trust, and it be paid for by the state of Arizona. Furthermore, we would offset other cost of deductibles and co-pays.

Currently, our first responders are having to pay for their healthcare and typically are being denied their claims for healthcare protection due to job related illness.

What are your views on financial transparency and government accountability?

I believe that financial transparency and government accountability are crucial pillars of a functioning democracy. Transparency in financial matters ensures that public funds are used responsibly and wisely, and that the decision-making process is open to scrutiny. This helps to prevent corruption and build trust between the government and its citizens.

Government accountability is equally important. It means that elected officials and public servants are answerable for their actions and decisions, and that they prioritize the interests of the public. Accountability ensures that those in power are held responsible for their actions, and that there are mechanisms in place to address any abuses of power or breaches of trust.

By promoting financial transparency and government accountability, we can create a system that is fair, just, and responsive to the needs of the people. It allows citizens to actively participate in the democratic process, holding their elected representatives accountable for their promises and actions. Ultimately, this leads to a more transparent and accountable government that serves the best interests of its citizens.

Do you support or oppose changes to the current state ballot initiative process? If so, what kind of changes would you consider?

Is there a book, essay, film, or something else you would recommend to someone who wants to understand your political philosophy?

Presently it might have to be “Alexander Hamilton,” the musical, and "Bowling Alone" by Robert D. Putnam.

1. "Hamilton" (musical): Lin-Manuel Miranda's acclaimed musical offers a unique way to engage with Alexander Hamilton's political philosophy and his contributions to the formation of the United States. The musical explores themes such as individual ambition, the balance of power, and the importance of citizen participation in shaping a nation's destiny.

Putnam: This book delves into the decline of social and political engagement in American society, including the decreasing rates of voter participation. Putnam examines the consequences of this decline on community involvement, trust, and democracy itself.

By combining the historical context and political ideals depicted in "Hamilton" with the analysis of societal disengagement in "Bowling Alone," you can gain a comprehensive understanding of the challenges and potential solutions related to citizen participation in politics. These two sources provide a thought-provoking exploration of political philosophy and the importance of fostering an engaged and connected society.
