Who are you? Tell us about yourself.
Jayson Toweh comes from a family of service members, union leaders, and farmers who believed in hard work, responsibility, and leaving their communities better than they found them. That spirit shaped his life and career in public health, environmental quality, and economic opportunity. A proud Georgia native, Jayson grew up in Cobb County and graduated from Kennesaw Mountain High School. Like many families across the state, his family faced real challenges, sitting in a sweltering home when the electricity bill was too high to keep the air on, relying on free school lunch, living with the threat of homelessness, and struggling to access healthcare. Those experiences continue to drive his commitment to public service. Jayson built his career at the intersection of health, energy, education, and responsible governance. He is currently a PhD candidate at Stanford University’s Doerr School of Sustainability, where his research focuses on how severe weather and power outages impact health and local economies, and how smart energy investments can lower costs, improve reliability, and protect health. He holds degrees from the University of Michigan, Harvard University, and an MBA. He previously served as a Management and Program Analyst in the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Office of Inspector General, helping strengthen oversight of environmental programs and ensure accountability. He serves on the Harvard Board of Overseers, focusing on governance and accountability.
Please list below 3 key messages of your campaign. What are the main points you want voters to remember about your goals for your time in office?
Economic Opportunity: Is a key priority by creating clear pathways to good-paying, union-supported jobs. I support investments in quality education, mentorship, apprenticeships, and career training and transition pathway that prepare students and workers for high-growth industries while strengthening our local workforce. I will work to expand middle-class opportunity through smart tax incentives, including support for renewable energy and the child tax credit, alongside investments in workforce development and affordable housing. I also support strategic community investment, such as bringing professional hockey to the district, to drive small business growth and long-term economic development.Health & Family Stability: One of my key goals is to expand access to affordable health and mental health care, protect Medicaid and Medicare, prevent rural hospital closures, and increase access to maternal and OB/GYN care. I will also safeguard vital nutrition programs that keep families healthy and strengthen community well-being.
I support working toward a healthcare system that guarantees access to quality care for all, because too many of our constituents remain uninsured or underinsured. I also plan to introduce legislation to allow essential resilience equipment—such as battery backups and solar power—to be reimbursed through Medicare and Medicaid. This will help protect electricity-dependent patients.Energy Affordability & Reliability:
Address rising energy costs with responsible, pragmatic solutions that lower utility bills, strengthen grid reliability, and advance energy independence. I support investing in domestic, renewable energy sources to reduce reliance on volatile markets while safeguarding our lakes and rivers. I will ensure that new data center development does not move forward unless it meets strict standards that prevent strain on the power grid, protect water resources, and safeguard surrounding communities. In addition, I will prioritize protecting vulnerable residents during power disruptions and expanding resilience measures to help build stronger, more reliable communities across the district.
What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?
I am passionate about expanding economic opportunity, strengthening health and family stability, ensuring affordable and reliable energy, and advancing education and government accountability. My work focuses on how rising costs, environmental risks, and infrastructure challenges impact everyday life. I am committed to improving access to healthcare, protecting Medicare and Medicaid, and addressing the effects of power outages and environmental hazards on vulnerable communities. I support pathways to good paying jobs through education and workforce development, advancing energy independence through renewable energy to lower costs, and protecting our environment while ensuring development does not strain our grid or harm communities.
