Background

Butler is a native of North Carolina. He obtained a B.A. in religion from Campbell University in 2001, an M.A. in intercultural studies from Asbury Theological Seminary in 2004, and a doctorate of ministry from Duke Divinity School in 2019. Butler has experience working as a pastor, community organizer, and non-profit executive. As of 2019, Butler was the pastor of Open Table United Methodist Church. He also co-founded Exploit No More in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Butler described the mission of Exploit No More as to provide aftercare for underage victims of sexual exploitation and human trafficking. Butler has also worked with International Justice Mission, Christian Community Development Association, and the Industrial Areas Foundation. He lives in Raleigh, North Carolina, with his wife and three children.[1]
