In their own words

Who are you? Tell us about yourself.

My name is Jason Brown II. I am 25 years old, a college student, a union member, a full-time worker in Richmond Public Schools, and a sitting school board member in Dinwiddie County. I am a descendant of enslaved Africans right here in Chesterfield County. I didn't inherit power; I inherited a fight. I've cut my teeth, taken off the gloves, and now I'm taking the fight to Congress to put power back into the hands of the people, and win for all of us!

Please list below 3 key messages of your campaign. What are the main points you want voters to remember about your goals for your time in office?

Abolish I.C.E. -- I am proud to stand with our migrant communities in face of I.C.E. violence. There was a time where we lived without I.C.E. and there will be a time where we will live without I.C.E. again. With escalated I.C.E. terror and the ongoing war on migrant families, we need leaders who will proactively fight to abolish this illegitimate agency and prosecute agents who have terrorized entire communities. Not another dime should go to I.C.E. I will also write/co-sponsor legislation that grants immediate citizenship to undocumented families and loved ones in our communities, immediately ends the inhumane blockade on the Cuban people and ends sanctions on Venezuela, and increases funding for public school Title III and ESL programs.Affordability For All -- My plan is to guarantee free healthcare for all Americans, cap rent to less than 10% of household income (example: if you make $35,000, you'll pay no more than $290 a month). I will fight to guarantee free Pre-K for all children, raise the minimum wage to $25/hour, and expand social security and benefits for seniors. The system is becoming harder and harder to survive. Rent has soared to unaffordable rates. Pharmaceutical companies and insurance agencies are getting richer off of our sickness while families are paying hundreds for health insurance and thousands in medical debt. The costs to feed our families, afford education, and live are becoming harder to afford. It's time we were on the winning side!End Our Wars -- My plan is to immediately end support for the genocide in Palestine, require a yearly 2% reduction in military spending to be transferred to fund housing, schools, and medical research; bring American troops back home and end the veterans suicide and homelessness crises, raise the refugee admissions cap, and fund reparations for the redevelopment of Gaza and the West Bank. Our foreign policy is destructive and chaotic, and the conflicts we’ve created around the world are simply unjustified. We will only know peace at home once we are committed to real peace abroad. It’s time to pull the plug on the war machine, build peace, and work for the common good of all people.

What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?

K-12 education, immigration reform, anti-war efforts
