Bailey's campaign website highlighted the following issues:
Justice
As an attorney and a member of our community, Jamaal understands how desperately we need criminal justice reform. He will advocate for bail reform, grand jury reform and the assignment of special prosecutors.
Community
Too often, our community doesn’t get its fair share. One of Jamaal’s top priorities has been bringing a community center to our district that all ages can enjoy. Working for Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie, Jamaal led negotiations to bring a state-of-the art recreational center to our district—and in October 2015, the City of New York released a Request for Proposals (RFP) for the development and operation of a new recreational and community facility in the Edenwald neighborhood, at 1250 East 229th Street.
Education & Youth
In the State Senate, he will fight for our youth by standing up for public schools and taking an approach to education that focuses on the whole child. Jamaal knows that education doesn’t happen in a vacuum—we need to give children the tools to succeed in and out of the classroom.
We need to fully fund school nutrition programs—because children can’t learn properly on an empty stomach or without a nutritious diet.
Seniors
In the State Senate, Jamaal will keep fighting for seniors by defending funding of senior centers, creating more dedicated spaces for seniors to gather and protecting meals-on-wheels and other essential programs.
Jobs
Jamaal works with Per Scholas, an organization that provides free technology classes, financial literacy training, credit counseling and job placement assistance to get our youth into the jobs of the 21st century economy and have success when they land those jobs. These kinds of programs, which broaden young adults’ horizons by focusing on important skill sets, will be a major focus for Jamaal in the State Senate and help us get people into jobs with real career tracks—and finally close the wage gap- as it is reprehensible that women get paid less than men do for equal work.[5]
