Please list below 3 key messages of your campaign. What are the main points you want voters to remember about your goals for your time in office?
My first critical issue that I will work on is access to rural healthcare. The recent cuts to the Medicaid program will be devasting to our rural hospitals, clinics, and Nursing Homes. Congress passed HR1 bill that will cut one trillion dollars from the Medicaid program. This will be phased in over a 10-year period. In 2026 the cut was $17 Billion, which was devasting to many rural hospitals and clinics. In 2027 the cuts jump up to $46 Billion which means that there will be many rural hospitals and clinics closing. It just gets worst in the remaining years. These cuts are not sustainable.
In a second blow to rural hospitals and clinics, HR1 eliminated the ACA subsidies for Health Insurance, making health insurance unaffordable. My second critical issue is housing affordability. Housing in the rural areas has become too expensive resulting in lower home ownership, increase in homelessness, or the creation of multi-generational family household due to affordability issues. I want to work on solutions to make safe housing more affordable.Environmental issues : water quality, air quality, climate change, and safe generation of energy. We have an opportunity of use state of the art technology to address these issues. Sound scientific studies in partnership with sound public policy, using new technology can and will develop solutions that protect our environment for future generations.
What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?
Access to rural healthcare, which includes sustainable funding for services for rural hospitals, clinics, and Nursing Homes), coupled with affordable health coverages for all rural citizens. I am also passionate about creative solutions to safe affordable housing in the rural areas. These are two of the necessary legs for a strong rural Minnesota. The third necessary leg would be investment in rural economic develop that provides stable income to support our rural population. And the final necessary leg would be sustainable family farms/agricultural opportunities.
What organizations or individuals have endorsed your campaign?
Minnesota DFL Party, DFL Rural Caucus, Friends of the Boundary Water Canoe Action Network, DFL Environmental Caucus, and Education Minnesota so far. I am still waiting to hear from other organizations.
