In their own words

Who are you? Tell us about yourself.

My name is Jabra Muhawieh, and I am a business owner, tax professional, and real estate broker based in San Francisco. I began working in my family’s businesses at just eight years old, where I gained firsthand experience in the challenges and responsibilities of serving a community and building a lasting legacy. Those early experiences shaped my strong work ethic and led me into business, finance, and real estate.

Today, I am an enrolled agent and licensed tax professional, running my own tax preparation and planning firm. I also help operate my family’s grocery and liquor business, which has served San Francisco since 1906. In addition, my work as a real estate broker has given me direct insight into California’s housing challenges and the barriers many people face in finding affordable homes.

I also had the opportunity to serve as a batboy and clubhouse attendant for the San Francisco Giants during their World Series championship years from 2012 to 2016. That experience reinforced the importance of discipline, teamwork, and commitment, values I carry into my personal life, professional life, and public service.

Please list below 3 key messages of your campaign. What are the main points you want voters to remember about your goals for your time in office?

California’s high cost of living is driven in part by an increasingly heavy tax burden on working families. I support reducing income and property taxes to help people keep more of what they earn and stay rooted in their communities.

I also support reforming or repealing Proposition 19, which changed long-standing property tax protections for inherited homes. Many families who have worked their entire lives to own a home are now at risk of losing it due to sudden property tax increases when it is passed down to the next generation. This issue affects most the backbone o teachers, retirees, and middle-class families on fixed incomes who may be forced to sell their family home. I believe California should protect family legacies.California’s small businesses are being crushed by excessive regulations with little accountability from those who pass them. I will fight to cut unnecessary red tape and hold government responsible for the real impact these laws have on working people.

Too often, ballot measures are written in confusing and misleading ways. For example, Proposition 19 was presented in a way many voters did not fully understand. Laws should be written in plain English so people know exactly what they are voting on.

I also support stronger oversight of tax revenue and higher standards for placing measures on the ballot, ensuring transparency, accountability, and trust in government.Freedom of speech is a fundamental right that must be protected. I believe people should be able to express their views without fear of being silenced, punished, or unfairly judged simply for having a different opinion.

Open and respectful dialogue is essential to a healthy society. When people can speak freely, we can have meaningful conversations, solve problems, and find common ground, even when we disagree.

Politics should not divide us or dominate our lives. We must restore a culture where individuals are respected for their views, and where civil discourse replaces division and hostility.

What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?

I’m most passionate about tax policy and regulatory reform. As an enrolled agent and licensed tax professional, I have seen firsthand how high taxes and complex regulations impact working individuals, families, and business owners. When people are overtaxed, it limits their ability to invest, grow, and build long-term stability.

I believe that how government collects and allocates resources directly affects opportunity and quality of life. Fair and responsible tax policy is essential to ensuring people can keep more of what they earn while supporting necessary public services.

As early American Chief Justice John Marshall stated, “the power to tax is the power to destroy.” This underscores the need for balance and restraint in taxation
