In their own words
Who are you? Tell us about yourself.
Iva Williams is a dedicated community member who works to ensure the lives of Utahns and their neighborhoods are preserved by protecting Utah's prosperity now, and for all future generations.
Originally from Texas, Iva learned what hard work looks and feels like digging post holes for her father and watching her mother, a nurse at the local clinic, work with incoming patients. Iva later moved to Laramie, Wyoming where she graduated from the University of Wyoming with a Bachelors in Journalism.
Since moving to Sandy, Utah in 2008, Iva raised her children with her husband Ben, and became an indispensable member to her community. Through her continued work to stop construction of the Little Cottonwood Canyon gondola and supporting local unions, Iva's commitment to preserving the quality of life for Utahn's remains steadfast and unshakable.
Please list below 3 key messages of your campaign. What are the main points you want voters to remember about your goals for your time in office?
Keeping our district affordable:
The rising cost of living is making it difficult for young adults and seniors to afford homes in House District 42. My main priorities include easing property taxes for retirees, increasing the supply of starter homes, and lowering electricity costs through innovative energy solutions.Preserving Our Environment:
I strongly oppose development projects that threaten Utah’s natural spaces. I am particularly opposed to the gondola project in Little Cottonwood Canyon and data center construction without oversight or community input. I will champion efforts, including legislation and policies that protect Utah's air quality and natural resources, particularly efforts to refill the Great Salt Lake.Protecting Working Utahns:
Working Utahns are the backbone of our state. Any attempt to strip public sector workers of their right to unionize is a direct betrayal of the American values we hold dear. I am proud to be endorsed by local labor unions and backed by community organizers because they know I will actually fight for them.
What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?
I am passionate about all areas of public policy that promote the prosperity and quality of life to our neighborhoods. My areas of focus are housing affordability for our seniors and first-time homebuyers, guaranteeing access to our recreational spaces and clean environments, and ensuring protections to union's right to collectively bargain.
What organizations or individuals have endorsed your campaign?
Zac Robinson, Women's Democratic Club of Utah, IBEW Local 354, IBEW Local 57, Teamsters Local 222, and Operating Engineers Local 3.
