Hilda Solis was born in Los Angeles, California. She earned a high school diploma from La Puente High School; a bachelor's degree from California State Polytechnic University; and a Master of Public Administration from the University of Southern California. Solis' career experience includes working in the Carter White House Office of Hispanic Affairs and serving as a management analyst in the civil rights division of the Office of Management and Budget.[1][2]
Solis served as the secretary of labor from 2009 to 2013 during President Barack Obama's (D) administration. She also represented California's 32nd Congressional District from 2001 to 2009; served as a member of the California State Senate from 1994 to 2001; and served in the California State Assembly from 1992 to 1994.[1]
