In their own words
Who are you? Tell us about yourself.
I am Hanu Karlapalem. I have been living in Madison, Alabama for 26 years. I am small technology business owner, graduate of The University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAH) with a M.S. degree in Management Information Systems, former board member of UAH Alumni Association, Life Member and former Second Vice-President of NAACP Limestone County Unit, married for 31 years, and a community servant leader.
I marched across the Edmund Pettus Bridge in Selma, and spent years advocating for working families, veterans, and students across Morgan, Limestone, and Madison counties. I am running for the Alabama House of Representatives, District 4, because our communities deserve a representative who shows up - not one who votes with corporate PACs and stays silent while families struggle. I believe in an Alabama where every child has a strong public school, every worker has opportunity, and every veteran receives the care they earned. This is my home. I am running to serve House District 4 and build An Alabama We Can Afford.

What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?

Affordability: I've watched nurses, teachers, first responders, EMS workers, factory workers, veterans, linemen, and many other hardworking people get squeezed by rising costs while wages stay flat. My first job will be making life more affordable — not funneling taxpayer money to politically connected interests, as the Republican supermajority has done.
Responsible growth and energy policy: North Alabama is booming, but unchecked AI data center development threatens to raise electricity rates for everyday ratepayers while handing huge tax breaks to out-of-s
