Who are you? Tell us about yourself.

Hello, my name is Grace Marrero & I am running for New York State 80th Assembly seat. I am a mother, a grandmother & a great-grandmother. I am a lifelong New Yorker & have been a community leader & advocate for the past 20+ years. I have been advocating for the community from behind the scenes & never cared about being in the spotlight. However, things have changed in our City & State & not for the better. Our government & other institutions have been infiltrated by those who would destroy our way of life & the American dream. We are bombarded with messages to keep us fearful of the world & to hate one another because of our differences. My objective is to further help my community by securing a position that will enable me to continue to fight in a more effective way & to positively affect the lives of everyday people. My experience & vast array of knowledge are valuable assets & will enhance the community's needs. The decline of our community is due to our feckless elected officials who want to maintain power & control & not do what is right by the people. It’s time to elect someone who is truly FROM the community, a community leader who will do FOR the community. Someone who will be a true voice for the VOICELESS. Please list below 3 key messages of your campaign. What are the main points you want voters to remember about your goals for your time in office?

Bail Reform has been a disaster for our communities. The progressive/socialist leftists in office protect criminals instead of law abiding citizens. I will fight to repeal bail reform legislation. I will also fight for law enforcement which has been decimated by these laws. The argument that black & brown people are disproportionally targeted does not hold water. It is a straw man argument to convince the population that these communities are victims of circumstance. I say it is a flat out deception & should be rejected by every voter. I will do everything I can to get these laws off the books. Never forget, IF YOU'RE NOT AT THE TABLE. THEN YOU ARE ON THE MENU! Vote for me on November 5th & join me at the table!Sanctuary State status has been a disaster for our communities. The progressive/socialist leftists in office protect illegal aliens instead of law abiding citizens. I will fight to repeal our sanctuary state status. The argument that the criminal "migrants" are looking for better opportunities does not hold water. What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?

The public policies I'm most passionate about is the overreach of government.  Covid & "climate change" are prime examples of government overreach. The government FORCED, under threat of fines & arrest, businesses to close down. They created fear among the population & tried to take away our right to choose!  "Climate change" is another straw man argument. It's never been voted on yet they are forcing it on us regardless of the environmental impact. Remember, they cause a problem & then  promise to fix the problem they created. Who do you look up to? Whose example would you like to follow, and why?

I looked up to my father, who has since passed. He was a hard worker who worked 3 jobs to provide for his family. His determination, strength & intelligence was something to be in awe of.

What characteristics or principles are most important for an elected official?

The most important characteristics and principles for an elected official is to have the integrity to do what he/she is elected to do. He/she must be truthful and honest especially with their constituents. They cannot pick & choose who to represent. They MUST represent everyone, regardless if they are allies or enemies. If an elected official tells their constituents that they will do something, then, barring opposition, the elected needs to do it! There are 2 things that I hate the most, a liar & a thief. I know many elected officials & I have come to realize that that is exactly what they are, liars & thieves, yet they keep getting elected to office! This cycle of dysfunction must end. What qualities do you possess that you believe would make you a successful officeholder?

Like my father, I am a hard worker. Honest to a fault. I am trustworthy and loyal, also to a fault. I like to learn about as much as I can on any subject. I watch, listen & learn from what I see goes on around me & from the people around me. I can spot a dishonest person pretty quickly. Never forget, IF YOU'RE NOT AT THE TABLE. What do you believe are the core responsibilities for someone elected to this office?

The core responsibilities for someone elected to this office is to NEVER FORGET who put you there and WHY! Anyone elected to this office must ALWAYS protect the community that put them their as their representative & never give in to special interests! Once an elected is controlled by special interests & big money, then the people suffer. Remember, they cause a problem & then  promise to fix the problem they created. What legacy would you like to leave?

What is the first historical event that happened in your lifetime that you remember? How old were you at the time?

The 1st historical event that I will never forget was the assassination of President Kennedy. ( was in 2nd grade & I remember everyone crying in disbelief. I still cry when I remember it.

What was your very first job? How long did you have it?

My very 1st job was at a produce stand when I was 15. I worked there until I went to college at 17.

What is your favorite book? Why?

One of my favorite books is the Cave by Plato. It illustrates how people can be deceived when not given the all the information.

If you could be any fictional character, who would you want to be?

I think I would have to say Elsa from Frozen. She was afraid of her own strength & power until she embraced it & saw that it was good.

What was the last song that got stuck in your head?

Let's talk about Jesus!

What is something that has been a struggle in your life?

I have struggled with self doubt at times. I haven't had an easy life & have had to learn how to bend with what gets thrown my way. This has made me stronger both in spirit & will.

What do you believe is the ideal relationship between the governor and state legislature?

The ideal relationship between the Governor & State Legislature is the same as that of the Executive Office & the Legislative office at the Federal Level. There has to be checks & balances. Currently, we have a 1 party system. The Senate, Assembly, Governor's seat & everything in between is controlled by the corrupt progressive/socialist Democrats with the help of their Rino Republican counterparts. This has to change if things are going to get better & on track. There must be honest representation in order to carry out the will of We, the People. As of now, only THEY are at the table. What do you perceive to be your state's greatest challenges over the next decade?

The State of New York's greatest challenge is to undo all the damage that has been done by the progressive/leftist democrats & friends. They have leveled disaster upon disaster on us. From the invasion of illegal aliens to the straw dog of "affordable" housing; from bail "reform" & defunding the police; from corrupt judges to corrupt politicians across the state, WE are in big trouble if we don't turn things around now! They are the ones at the table & will continue to eat us alive if we don't change things. Remember, they cause a problem & then  promise to fix the problem they created. Do you believe that it’s beneficial for state legislators to have previous experience in government or politics?

NO! Every state legislator knew nothing at the beginning. Now, they have weaponized their offices to maintain power. They plan ahead who will take their place once they decide to move on to another office. It is a game of musical chairs. The one who controls the music is the one who controls the seats. When you don't have an honest music giver, then you have a corrupt system designed to look like the people had a say. This is an illusion that, as hard as it may be to swallow, is something that the people of the great state of NY have to understand & learn. Do you believe it’s beneficial to build relationships with other legislators? Please explain your answer.

Yes, it is beneficial to build relationships with other legislators. However, the relationship cannot trump the relationship that the legislator has with his/her constituents, the people who put their trust in them. I am always willing & open to working with anyone for the betterment of my community, even if our personal relationship is not great. Is there a particular legislator, past or present, whom you want to model yourself after?

Not really. While I admire certain former Presidents & have learned from their tenures, I believe I have to be my own person. What would it benefit my constituents if I modeled myself after another legislator? I know many legislators & have seen & experienced how they operate. Are you interested in running for a different political office (for example, the U.S. Congress or governor) in the future?

It depends. If people want me to run for a higher office, then I would consider it. But first, I need to help my community now! I want to bring people to the table so their voices will be heard. Both sitting legislators and candidates for office hear many personal stories from the residents of their district. Is there a story that you’ve heard that you found particularly touching, memorable, or impactful?

Not only have I heard many stories, but I have experienced my own dilemmas. Currently, we are facing the City of Yes by Mayor

Adams & by extension, by Hochul & the state legislators. The plan is to rezone the entire city. This will destroy low density neighborhoods while bringing us back to the ghetto days, before all the protections that we currently enjoy, existed. This is a serious plan by the Mayor. The majority of the NYS legislators are in favor of it and they are waiting to see how much push back the communities are going to give. Governor Hochul already has plans to do the same throughout the entire state. So, yea, we are in a heap of trouble right now! Never forget, IF YOU'RE NOT AT THE TABLE.  THEN YOU ARE ON THE MENU! Should the legislature oversee or grant the use of emergency powers?

Currently, the legislature does oversee &/or grant the use of emergency powers. The problem is that the progressive/socialist democrats have the majority. They have weaponized this privilege of granting emergency powers. They have an agenda & all fall in lockstep to implement the plan, no matter who or what it hurts, as long as they stay in power! As long as they control the table, We, the People, will continue to be their playthings. Remember, they cause a problem & then  promise to fix the problem they created. What is the first bill you would introduce if elected?

The 1st bill I would introduce would be to repeal bail reform. Once that is repealed, those who commit crimes can be held away from the general population allowing them to be safer. Currently, there is no safety because of the outrageous "bail reform" put out by the progressive/socialist legislators. This would also help with the illegal alien problem because ICE would be allowed to pick up those who came here illegally. What are your views on financial transparency and government accountability?

I believe that the government absolutely has to be transparent especially when it comes to our tax dollars! The government does not have the right to spend our money without permission from We, the People! When our representatives hide what is going on with our money, then that should send a red flag to all constituents and they must demand accountability. If there's no accountability then they can, will & do, use our money in ways that are detrimental to us! Remember, they cause a problem & then  promise to fix the problem they created. Would a state ballot initiative process be good or bad for your state?

Currently, there is a state ballot initiative that will be on the back of the the ballot. It is the Equal Rights Amendment. This amendment will change the NY Constitution. It will take away parental rights by giving children of any age, the right to decide for themselves whether to be a boy, girl, cat, dog or whatever! This law, if passed, is the dream of the pharmaceutical industry as they will have lifelong patients to experiment on. There's more to it and I invite people to look up the bill & read it. I URGE everyone to vote NO! to prop 1 on the back of the ballot. Remember, they cause a problem & then  promise to fix the problem they created.
