Background

Glenn Prax was born in Sleepy Eye, Minnesota, and lives in North Pole, Alaska. Prax graduated from AE Lathrop High School in 1974. His career experience includes owning Prospector Outfitters and working as an operations technician with Alyeska Pipeline Service Company.[1]

Who are you? Tell us about yourself.

I have served 7 years in the State Legislature, 7 years on the House Health & Social Services Committee, 5 years on the Education Committee, 5 years on the Energy Committee, 4 years on the Labor and Commerce Committee, and 2 years on the Resource Committee.

My primary focus for the 35th legislature will be lowering the cost of health care decreasing the cost of energy.

Please list below 3 key messages of your campaign. What are the main points you want voters to remember about your goals for your time in office?

Proven: My record demonstrates my commitment to controlling the cost of state government and promoting private sector growth.Practical: I think about the downside as well as the upside and I actively listen to others.Principled: I base my decisions on whether a proposal conforms to the founding principles of Article 1, Section 1 of Alaska's State Constitution and our Declaration of Independence.

What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?

We have to reduce Alaska's high cost of Energy and health care and the loss of confidence in our education system.

Who do you look up to? Whose example would you like to follow, and why?

Jesus Christ, because he challenges us to not only love our neighbors, but even to love our enemies. (See the 'beatitudes' Mathew 5:43)

What characteristics or principles are most important for an elected official?

Willingness to consider other points of view.

What do you believe are the core responsibilities for someone elected to this office?

Pass annual state budget. Accept legislators responsibilities under Alaska Executive Budget Act. Follow the rule of law.

What legacy would you like to leave?

That I helped to make State Statutes & policy more closely aligned with Art. 1, Section 1 of Alaska's State Constitution.

What was your very first job? How long did you have it?

Worked at my parents bakery total of eight years.

What is something that has been a struggle in your life?

Loving my enemies.

What do you believe is the ideal relationship between the governor and state legislature?

Working together to establish measurable goals and objectives as required by the Alaska Executive Budget Act (AS 37.07) more effectively.

What do you perceive to be your state's greatest challenges over the next decade?

Reducing our reliance on government subsidies.

Do you believe that compromise is necessary or desirable for policymaking?

Compromise can be beneficial provided that it leads us toward toward or goal of implementing Art. 1, Section 1 of our State Constitution.

None have formally endorsed my campaign thus far.

What was the first historical event that happened in your lifetime that you remember?

The assassination of President Kennedy..
