Giovanni A. Haqani

Giovanni Haqani (Democratic Party) ran for election to the U.S. Senate to represent New Mexico. He did not appear on the ballot for the Democratic primary on June 2, 2020.

Haqani was a 2016 Democratic candidate for District 20 of the New Mexico House of Representatives.[1] He was defeated in the November 8, 2016, general election.

Haqani's campaign website highlighted the following issues:[6]

Infrastructure: New Mexico has its own share of that problem and as a result Infrastructural Revitalization is another factor that I take into account as a legislator.

Economy: Both large and small businesses that create the kind of jobs that will heal the economy pay attention to crime rates when they are considering whether or not to invest in a state. If we address crime, the economy can begin to heal itself.

Veteran affairs: We owe our veterans the best care possible. The end of two wars has led to an influx of troops returning and our systems have been overloaded because of an incapacity to handle the volume.

Healthcare: Healthcare is a basic human right. As long as we see health care through that lens, we will find the motivation to bring a single-payer system which would be more functionally efficient and more cost effective.

Immigration: To me, the immigration issue is not an immigration issue… it’s a humanitarian issue. Furthermore, immigration is linked to the economy and reform will mean that the State and our Nation will be able to raise revenue from taxes alone.[7]
